My grandfather went into surgery yesterday to replace a valve on his heart, when he was in recovery his blood pressure dropped and they had a hard time stabilizing (sp?) him so he went back into surgery twice. After his third time under the knife he is back in recovery and stable. Is this normal? Do you think he will be okay?
I didn't think this would hit me as hard as it did but I haven't seen him in over 10 years. (He lives in Wisconsin) And I feel I have missed so much time with him. Someone on here has to know about these things. Honestly what are his chances of survival? And don't sugar coat it I want to know the truth.
Thanx in advance
Ravvy

It's possible that it could take that many times to stabilize him. Especially if he were on the verge of a massive heart attack. I'm only guessing on that part though. When my mom had her heart surgery it was initially supposed to be a bypass operation, it later turned into a triple bypass. Sometimes these things happen like that. My mom had her operation over seven years ago and she's fine. She's had to go in for minor things now and again, though never to operate. As long as he takes it easy and works at living as healthy a lifestyle as possible I think he'll be okay.
I hope everything works out for your grandfather.

My mother had valve replacement surgery a few years ago. She went with the titanium valve as opposed to the pig valve because it will last longer. She is definitely better off now than she was before. Medical science is amazing because my Mom would be dead now without the valve. She leads a very normal life now at 62 and is working and is taking sailing lessons. I'm betting your Grampa will be healthier than ever!!!
What kind of valve did he get?

thank you for all of your support guys, my mom says he is stabilized and even though the next few days is critical she says he looks a lot better and will be okay.
