Stickies Suggestion

We've got a ridiculous amount of XM threads around at this point.

From here on out, if it's XM-related, use threads like this one or this one.


I know this is an absolutely insane thought and rediculous to even suggest, however I think it a good deterrent to multiple threads on the same topic would be to make stickies in those forums for popular things.

For example. O&A. Believe it or not a lot of people who listen to Ron and Fez listen to them as well. A lot of people also are curious about XM and satellite radio in general.

If a large amount of these types of multiple threads are popping up, why not make those topics stickies so they're right at the top of the forums. It might help reduce the amount of redundant threads that are popping up.

Since this is the lounge I am making this suggestion here. Though this in response to this thread (http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/viewmessages.cfm/Forum/80/Topic/42154/page/New_portable_XM_system_.htm) being locked.

Note, I'm not criticizing locking the thread, but rather just making a suggestion.

Though at the same time, there IS a search engine. I found the other XM threads just by typing "XM radio" into the engine. It took all of about five seconds.

I mean, how people here even bother to use the search engine in the first place?

Also I'm not suggesting keep them up there forever, but rather if it's a hot topic like Stern and Satellite radio, or O&A or anything that might spark multiple threads and appears to be a popular discussion, then keep them at the top until you see less responses in those threads.

I'll defer to them just because I did used to sticky a lot of threads when I first become mod, and I saw most of them become "unstickied" by somebody other than myself, so ask your friendly neighborhood admins what's "sticky-worthy" because fucked if I know, outside of show/board events.

I'm aware of that, though no matter how much you mods keep trying to drive that thought home you still get lots and lots of multiple topic threads.

You might either want to try the stickies idea, or make the Search thing more prominent for those who somehow keep missing it.

[granted I'm guilty of this myself, though i do use the search engine quite a lot.]

Not a bad idea, but how many regulars, after awhile, check out the stickies??? That's my only real thought. And a topic like O&A (for example), can be just as relevant in "entertainment," "feedback," "new york," "general discussion" or maybe even "lounge," - and satelite radio can also have a number of different places, dependring on the questions, comments or daily news, so where would you put a main threads to be stuck??
