i grew up a block from the beach and took long walks along the shore (where the sand is firmer) every morning with my dog between mid-sept and mid-may ...

Wow, WRC! Didn't expect to see that.
I'm a big rally fan myself, and have competed in SCCA club and pro rally's as both driver and co-driver.
I dare to say that rally is one of the few sports where the phrase "no fear" actually means anything.
Other hobbies include:
- Karting at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ
- guitar and song writing.
- video games
- hockey
- writing my dissertation

Real Eddie, awesome. What rally school did you go to? What lisences do you have? I've been interested in getting into the sport myself.
I just got back from Corsica!! And I'm hoping to go to the Michelin Race of Champions, I gotta see the look on Shumie's face when the rally boys beat him.

Thats awesome you went to Corsica. And the Rally Masters event sounds like a great trip. It was cool to see some American drivers last year (on speed channel of course). I tried to convince my wife to honeymoon in Monte Carlo for the F1 race but she woulnd't go for it. Of course, the price tag wasn't a big selling point.
The story of my rally exploits (and my teamate and former roommate) are found here. (http://www.2097racing.50megs.com/)
We never did any rally schools. We were planning on doing the Ski Saw Mill Rally School (which is not too much of school) but we blew the engine in our car and had to use money to by a replacement. The way we got driving experience (I say we because my teammate and I would swap driver and codriver roles in the middle of our events) is by doing rally crosses which are like auto crosses but on dirt. For my 30th birthday, I'm planning on treating myself with a 2 day trip to Tim O'neils Rally School. Everyone says its well worth the money.
I had a SCCA Pro Rally license which I let expire after leaving rally and heading to karting. I recently co-drive at the Presott Forest Rally for my ex-teammate and now have an SCCA Club Rally license. Of course, SCCA dropped rally due to insurance conscerns so that license is useless now.
This is one of our greatest achievements as a rally team: Before owning a car we had gone to numerous events to spectate. One day I thought, "Wouldn't it be funny if....". And when we got our car we went ahead and implemented my idea. I linked a 2mb movie of me driving our white VW Golf taking by a spectator at the Maine Forest. We are the second car in the clip :). Make sure you turn up the volume. Needless to say we were always a hit.
Quick Time Maine Forest Rally (http://www.princeton.edu/~eddie/maine_rally_eddie.mov)
Here is another cool pic:
http://tinypic.com/f16k5
Rally is an amazing motorsport and I can't wait to finish my dissertation so I can get back into it full time. Karting is just a cheap diversion until I get out of grad school.

SCCA dropped rally? Even the higher factory backed classes? If so, what happened Ramana?
Like the WRC, the SCCA should just get rid of night rallying. From what I've seen, the SCCA rallies have alot of fast sweeping turns like the WRC rallies of the '80's. They need to ad some more twisties to slow down the pace, and in turn, that will show who has the techinal ability. I also believe that the Group N cars have about 100 more horsepower that their WRC counterpart, that needs to change. Anyway, that's what i would do.
Nice site. Now I really wan't to get into the sport. I'm part Finnish, so I figure I've got a leg up already ;p
