All Hallows Eve! For those who have forsaken the dungheap called "The Grudge" ( I will wait for the original on DVD), Rejoice! Horror and suspense is out there in the local multi-plex and it's a fine scare indeed. "Saw" is from director James Wan and written by Aussie Leigh Whannell (who co-stars as the obnoxious Adam), and for a first time effort, it's fine. A serial killer suspense/mystery that has wonderfully grim ideas along with a clever story. No, its also not a perfect movie. "Saw" is from the 'David Fincher' style kill flick, borrowing a few puzzle sets from "Seven" and "The Game", and also "Identity".

The prologue is simple, Dr. Larry Gordon and photographer Adam awaken, locked and chained in a shithole toilet with no idea why they are there. With Cassette tapes in their pockets and in the middle of the room is a dead body with a gun and a tape recorder in his hands. They are told on tape to look for clues to escape or consequences of death. A hacksaw and a bullet are available to free themselves. Time is running out and Dr. Larry thinks he knows why he was abducted, flashbacks to the tale of 'The Jigsaw Killer'. A brute who makes his victims endure horrors only imagined by the sickest fearmonger. To remain alive, they must kill another to survive. Like 'Fear Factor' hosted by Jeffery Dahmer.

Cary Elwes(Hot Shots) stars as Dr. Gordon, and he is quite good in a bland way. Danny Glover is the detective on the trail of Jigsaw along with NYC Asian actor Ken Leung (Rush Hour) as the sidekick 'dead meat' partner. Clich‚s are there to ponder along with some over the top moments. The scares are fairly good and I had a ball watching the torturous schemes (screams!) Good work (if somewhat gruesome) and there will be sequels! "The Key..I Must Find The Key!"

Saw (watched) the movie. Liked the ending, but I thought the movie would have more gore than it did. Cary Elwes was good, but he did tend to overact, like when he was hysterical on the floor.

I saw "Saw" yesterday and it was a good flick.

But the best part was before the movie played they were showing all these PG/G Christmas movie previews. I was like "WTF are they showing this shit?", they're supposed to be showing rated R type previews. I looked around to see if there were any children present and there was none (thinking that I may have gone into the wrong screening). Once the previews were finished the movie started playing and it was "A Shark's Tale"! A bunch of us got up to look to see if we were in the right place and we were. The person working the projector put in the wrong movie. We had to wait for them to correct it and had to sit through another 15 minutes of previews and enjoy the movie shit.

I recently watched Saw on PPV and long story short, I'm glad I didn't buy the DVD. I thought it was another deal like The Ring, too much hype. Too bad I bought The Ring on DVD before watching it...
