View Full Version : hey Curt Shilling....stick to baseball

Yet another athlete/celeb wants to stick his/her two cents into the political ring. I will admit the 1st paragraph to this article was priceless!!! (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/writers/phil_taylor/11/01/schilling.bush/index.html)

"What do all men want Phillip?"
"He wants you to dress up like Wonder Woman, tie him up with your golden lariat and force him to tell the truth?????"

Apparently Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling thinks that blowing an 86-year-old hex
to smithereens makes him an instant expert even on complex,
non-baseball-related matters. Either that or he stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
After helping to lead Boston to its first World Series title since 1918, Schilling
suddenly feels politically astute enough to tell us all who our next president should be.
Gee, I wonder who the author's voting for!

No, I agree... But don't you get it?
By blatantly inserting HIS political bias into his article, he is doing exactly what he accused Schilling of doing.

Yeah, but he's Justice4all, who cares? He's not on a big stage, he's on a message board. Although I could do without his pandering as well, it's not as big a deal when he does it, or any of you Politics and Current Events" people for that matter.

I agree that everyone in sports and entertainment should stop talking politics.
But where was the outcry when everyone was bashing Bush?

I seem to recall a slight outcry when the Dixie Chicks singer said she was ashamed that she was from the same state as Bush.

The dixie chicks were criticized cause they are bad. They stink and had that political view.
But what about the actors who are out there and openly criticize bush? All those "Punk" bands that openly criticize the president? You don't hear a lot about them.

WHAT???? First let me say, I hate country music and I live in Nashville, so I am writing this from hell. But before I moved here to Hell, I did happen to here a little bit about these "Dixie Chicks" and their fan base was unfuckingbelievable. But when that woman said that thing about Bush, all conservative radio show hosts, TV show hosts, Newspaper editorialists jumped down their throats. Not because of their music, but because of what she said.
Yes, they do suck. But that's my musical taste. What happened then had nothing to do with their music and everything to do with their politics. As far as these punk bands not getting slammed? Since when has punk ever been known for anything than being anti authoritarian? It is punk law that they must hate whoever is in office.

so Justice4all...are you a Kerry supporter? that will either make or break your point...if you are honest.
Kerry seems to love the celeb angle...grabbing onto any and everyone who will say anything about him.
"Vote or Die" via Sean "Puffy/P Diddy/"it wasn't my gun it was his" Combs clearly is democratic slanted......
I can't stop hearing about Springsteen and Dave Matthews Band throwing concerts, putting together compliation CDs about throwing the president out of office with "Sum 41" and whoever else.
Michael Moore releases a full film about what Bush did wrong.
Matt Damon, Ben Affleck. all the best actors of our generation.
That's ok. No mention of any pushback from anyone over that....and then Schilling blurts out something.
Has anyone else heard ANY OTHER celeb EVEN mention Bush? It's almost like a Communist "Red Scare" in the 50s with this..."if you support Bush you are anti american"..."if you support Bush you are killing our children..." I'm sick of it.
Either way, Schilling didn't plan it, it just came out.

Make or break what point? Justice wasn't giving a political opinion, he just linked to an article about yet another celeb giving his unsolicited viewpoint. I'm for Kerry, I could give a shit who Schilling, Dave Matthews, or Pia Zadora is voting for.
Now, if Gallagher was voting for Bush. . .well then my opinion may be swayed.

Schilling didn't blurt out anything, he was in Ohio yesterday at one of Bush's rallies giving a damn speech. The only thing left for this guy to do for any more press is throw on Victoria's Secret lingerie and plaster his picture on the side of a billboard in times square. Schilling put on a heroic performance in the playoffs and led Boston to their first WS win since 1918, no doubt about it this guy has cemented himself as a hero in Boston sports folklore. It is however rather disgusting to see him jumping at the chance for any more publicity.
Not that this all of sudden occurred recently. Jim Fregosi used to call him "Red-Light Curt" because he was attracted to a camera like a moth to a light. And Diamondbacks teammates called him "Top-Step Curt."
