Hello again everyone. Since the last thread I created stayed very civil, I thought I would ask another small question. And I remember that a lot of you are tech heads and computer literate folk, so this is more down your alleys.
Does anyone have any software suggestions for a program that has preloaded sounds and instruments in it where you can create tracked music? What I am shooting for is to mess with drum beats and possibly make up a few hip hop type beats with bass, drums, piano and the like.
I am having a REALLY hard time even getting a starting point. I don't think I've used the proper key words in Google.
Anyone that is in the know and has a few names, I'd appreciate any feedback about different programs you might have. Things like price and ease of use. Or if not, just names.
Thanks.

Moe, have you checked Sam Ash's website? They have lots of sampling software titles you may want to check on. You can compare them for their offerings and get an idea which one you want.

Jesus, that was a little too obvious, but it worked. Thanks Reef. Where the hell were you when I asked my Blog readers for the same help?!?!
Anyway, that gave me a couple names. It seems Guitar Center's website isn't as helpful. I guess I have to go there if I want names and prices. Punk ass bitches.
If anyone else has an obvious idea I've missed, I'm not too proud to take your suggestion. Please make it.

Actually I saw that during the day while I was at work. However I didn't get the chance to look into it until i got home.

Moe, have you checked Sam Ash's website? They have lots of sampling software titles
Sampling is good; but that finding your own sounds, recording them, and then yer off to do tracking.
On the page that comes up in the Sam Ash hyperlink; look over to the left, and click on 'Looping Software'. This is whre its got all the sounds, you just point and click what noises you want where. You DONT want Analog/digital delays that also Loop. You want a looping program that comes with sampled instruments; the "Band in a Box"
Looping is big, and least with my musician fiends. For drummers its heaven, a great way for anyone to make a hell of a lot of noise, and I think what yer looking for Moe.
Some are quite amazing and intuitive; they use a 'piano roll' type thing, meaning, you dont have to think: Ok i want measures 1-28 here with Riff 1 and no bass, but then and bass comes in on Measure 29, and... you just drag shit to where it belongs on the piano roll and it plays it. No more thinking, which, in music, from my experience, is highly discouraged.
Sure beats dealing with human musicians! Methods of Mayhem and stuff like that are essentially Loop albums.
Guitar Center = Musician's Friend, online. I dont know why they have it set up like that.

If you're just 'messing around', almost any freeware/shareware MIDI sequencing software would probably work. Just make sure your soundcard has decent wavetable support. I used to use Cakewalk back awhile, but haven't been playing with that in a long time.

That's one of the dead end keyword searches I was talking about.
