Although I really I have no one to go with, I am still going to see this tonight. Perhaps twice depending on how good it is. I love Pixar and have not had a problem yet with any of their films. I am waiting for them to become independent fron Disney (which I believe is after this film) to try and get in and get some kind of job with them. Ever since Toy Story that has always been a dream of mine as Pixar has been more of an influence on me than anything. Just the design of their characters gives them such a soft feel. Like the take them home and hug them kind of feeling.

Much unlike Dreamworks films (except for Shrek) which the design just comes off like "Ok, we REALLY want to be Pixar but can't so let come as close as we can so we don't get sued kind of thing". Lame, very :cough:Shark Tale:cough: Lame.

Review: The Incredibles
http://www.browntownjohnny.com/index.php

I am not a great big huge fan of animated movies unless they have some hook that peaks my interest. Disney and Pixar did excellent work with 'Toy Story' and 'Finding Nemo' and my fave, 'A Bugs Life'. I didn't care for 'Monsters Inc.' though. Brad Bird did a fantastic movie called 'The Iron Giant', it was right on the mark for it's grand story and voice work. Pixar and Bird has now come up with a superb action comedy that is by far one of the great popcorn flicks of this or any other year, 'The Incredibles'. On top of this, its a very funny and hip satire on American values.

In the city of Metoville, crime is a daily problem that usually tackled by local superheroes. But the police take them for granted and times have changed, now the city folk want to sue our superheroes for damages with pain and suffering. Mr. Incredible is the top dog in town, along with Elastigirl and a cool mutha named Frozone. The Supreme Court has ordered all of our heroes to be relocated into society and never wear their form fitting costumes or perform acts of heroism again. So now, overweight Bob Parr (alias Mr. Incredible) and wife Helen (Elastigirl) moved to the suburbs and have 3 kids. Bob is an insurance adjuster (funny to see him in his tiny cubicle) who is harassed by his pip-squeak boss (voice of Wallace Shawn is inspired) for helping the customers get their claims. Bob is too good at being a hero, on bowling night he sneaks away to save people from burning buildings with his best friend Lucius (AKA Frozone). Helen is busy trying to raise 11yr old Dash (he has flash-like speed) and Violet (can be invisible) and baby Jack-Jack (wait to see his powers). This is classic sitcom material and it works just fine in a feature film. Think of the Munsters and Bewitched, sitcoms that fused American values and culture with fantasy with great results.

Bard Bird is a genius! The collaboration with a team of animation designers is stellar. The script is a character based comic gem. The action and pacing is on a whole new level (best Pixar movie yet). Also the voicework by Craig T. Nelson (Poltergeist) and Holly Hunter (Coen Bros reg) along with Samuel L Jackson as Lucius, prove that the actors are the framework for the characters. The main villain is a snot name Syndrome (voiced by Kevin Smith's fave, Jason Lee) who is truly hateable. The plot does borrow from Dick Donner's Superman movies and the design and music have a Bondian text. The kids will love this movie, and the little boys in the back of the theater were screaming with laughter. My favorite character was little Dash, who gets to use his powers and likes the fact that he can kick ass. Bird uses real comic book references to classic heroes like Iceman, Hulk, Fantastic 4, and Lex Luthor. Mind you that this film is very violent for kids but I don't give a shit. Best film of the year! Better than Spiderman 2.

This is just the beginning for a long line of sequels, knock offs (Tim Allen has Zooms Academy, Kurt Russell has Sky High). Is "Geatest American Hero" far behind ....believe it or not, I'm walkin on air......

I am waiting for them to become independent fron Disney (which I believe is after this film)

It would have been after Cars (http://www.apple.com/trailers/disney/cars/) but I think they went back to Disney and reached a deal (Other studios couldn't meet what they wanted I guess) so Pixar/Disney will go on for a while but the terms of the deal are much different. I think it will be similar to the Lucasfilm/Fox deal, where Disney would profit from distribution, but Pixar would have more control over the product itself.

Mind you that this film is very violent for kids but I don't give a shit. Best film of the year! Better than Spiderman 2.

It is more violent, so perhaps they'll get that big kid audience (since it's still a Pixar Film and many parents probably won't know about the PG rating vs G for the others) and expand the adult audience (Since it's less "childish" that past Pixar Films) and make this the #1 Animated movie EVER as well as #1 Comedy ever (it is much funnier than Shrek 2)

If this beats Shrek 2 ADF has to eat a hat, right?

I had no idea Jason Lee was voicing Syndrome. I swore I thought it was Carrot Top. (seriously)

I could see that, Syndrome did look like Carrot Top (just fatter) and Jason Lee's voice is similar.

From Newsaskew.com: Kevin Smith on The Incredibles:

Jason Lee evokes Azrael as Syndrome, and makes us all proud

I hear that Brad Bird liked Jason Lee as Azrael in Dogma and wanted him to voice Syndrome.

I'm not sure that I would say Jason Evoked his Dogma Character for Syndrome, Azrael isn't as insecure and whiny.

Spoiler:<font color=white>Does life begin at egg laying or hatching? ;p But I guess that would make Nemo and Incredibles about even, I'm guessing a dozen or so Supers were killed before Syndrome got to Bob, The Flashbacks to the "Cape" accidents, Syndrome plus any people killed by flying debris and giant robot parts in the city.

I'm still wondering how Mr. Incredible's family survived the airplane blowing up, Elastigirl covered her children up but why wasn't she hurt? And how did they all survive the fall into the ocean?

And what was Jack Jack's power anyway? He turned into Fire, Then some kind of Metal, then a Devil Baby (Hell Boy?) :quest: </font>

I saw this last night, and was not disapointed in the slightest. I thought it was a really well done movie. Definately a little more mature that previous Pixar films, but still maintained that overall quality I've come to expect from them. Worth the $6.50.

Spoiler: I think one of the funniest parts was when the parents were fighting in the RV over which exit to take.

I concur; it was fanatically made for kids and adults. My daughter and I may actually see it again.
Disney/Pixar's The Incredibles lived up to its name earning an estimated $70.7 million its first weekend from 3,933 theaters, averaging an impressive $17,971 per location.

Edit: I contributed 15.50!

Saw it in Manhattan for $ 10.50 ( 21 since i paid for us both).
Great movie - best movie ive seen in a long time.
I was most impressed by the realism of the background scenery. It didnt look cartoonish or fake. I have no idea how they do that.
Raises the bar for all animated movies forever.

On a totally unrelated topic, i rented X-Men 2 this weekend and dont understand why at the end, coiuldnt the guy who freezes things freeze the water pouring from the dam ? Im watching this water destroy everything and kill people and wondered WHY DOESNT HE JUST FREEZE THE DAMN THING!

i saw it yesterday in sunnyside and only paid $4.50, pretty cool unto itself ...

i thought the bouncing sheep short was a bit off compared to the other great pixar shorts ... too childish, but maybe there to offset the tone of 'the incredibles' ...

the movie was just brilliant ... loved the casting, the plot was great and the dialogue was witty without being obnoxious ...

pixar movies just blow away any other animated movies, there's something about them that just retain that look ... with the exception of shrek, all other non-pixar flicks seem real dated when revisited ... especially 'antz' and 'ice age' ...

I really liked it, but aside from it being maybe a little too long, (like WWFallon said) the movie wasn't as knee-slapping funny as I thought it would be.

It was maybe the best, most complete, super hero movie I've seen.

Holly Hunter was Elastigirl and her voice is generally annoying.

I didn't notice Samuel L. Jackson was Frozone until I just looked up the cast and I wonder who's idea it was to cast Craig T. Nelson as Mr. Incredible, he did a good job.

Southern Accents don't bother me as much as other ones. Whenever I hear Holly Hunter's voice I always go back to RAISING ARIZONA, the first time I saw her in anything, and I could never personally be annoyed by that.

Maybe Craig T. Nelson got the idea to do an animated film from his old COACH co-star, Bill Fagerbakke, who played "Dauber" on that show before going on to do tons of cartoon voice work - including voicing "Patrick" on"Spongebob Squarepants."

She's a staple on PRI's radio show This American Life (http://www.thislife.org), which is how I became familiar with her work. Essayist, good writer. Odd and distinctive voice, though it took me a while to place it as I was watching the movie.
