The Last Comic Standing/Apprentice ripoff?

The always fierce competition among comics to land a gig on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" is set to become the basis of a reality series for the network.


Sources said NBC is working on a reality-competition series fronted by "SNL" creator/executive producer Lorne Michaels. The project would chronicle a group of comedians vying for a grand prize that is believed to be a role on the long-running sketch comedy series.

Michaels is expected to play a Donald Trump-like role, winnowing the pool of contestants until a victor is selected. Sources indicated that the project is eyed for a possible summer launch. NBC declined comment.

UGH does this sound bad. Worse yet it sounds like a awful ripoff of Last Comic Standing and The Apprentice.

i am very sick of reality TV. i watch tv to escape reality not to watch people eat insects and have their houses redone. I DON'T OWN A FUCKING HOUSE. why do i care if yours is falling apart.

reality TV should be having celebrities and billionaires give up all of their money to hard working americans to help them better their lives. buying them a new car, house, paying back bills, etc.

Hmmmmm...I would tend to agree with you, but MST3K owes a lot to both the "Rocky Horror Picture Show" experience, as well as local television horror hosts that made fun of old bad films, and even inserted themselves into it from time to time.

I am not 100% certain, but I even think Ohio's "Son of Ghoul" may have done something very close to MST3K back in the 1980s.
