View Full Version : Question about Drug Possession

I was reading the Tommy Lee autobiography (Tommyland) and in it, he states that he would shoot Heroine everyday. He would snort Coke (out of a bottlecap handed to him by his drum tech) several times each night while he was playing drums!!
Dave Navarro admitted on Stern (and in his book) that he did Heroine for years and also had a huge Coke habit.
I just saw George Carlin admit, on Inside The Actors Studio, that he was doing 6 grams of Coke every day.
My question is: Why are these people safe from the law? The are on tape and in print admitting to using serious amounts of drugs. Cant they be compelled by the Cops (or DEA) to reveal where they got their stuff? Cant they do time for possessing huge quantities??
These guys were on world tours. That means they probably passed through Borders and Customs and, probably lied to Federal agents when asked if they were carrying any illegal substances.
I know, it don't make 'em bad people, but I am wondering how/why they can get away with such admissions.
Anyone out there know the Law?

Most of this shit is done years and years ago.
I want a bottlecap full of coke.

I've been to plenty of PanterA shows where people would throw bags of weed on stage and Phil would pick them up, put it in his pocket and on mic yell "Thanks for the bud!" I was also at a Cypress Hill show where B-Real was smoking weed on stage, the crowd started chanting "Pass that shit" then he started saying "Pass that shit" and walked into the crowd and passed that shit. It seems that the cops are more worried about controling the crowd than trying to arrest the talent, which would cause a mass riot.
I know that doesnt answer your question, but it might help prove your point.

No...it's that they have to be caught with the narcotic....it's like admitting to a burglary but there's no complainant.....

just cause they say something doesn't mean they actually did it.
It seems to me it would be a huge waste of time to go after someone because they are bragging about doing drugs.

I thought the Statute of Limitations only prevented them from OPENING a case after a certain amount of time.
So...admitting to a crime (possession or whatever) is still protected by that statute? I thought admitting to a crime was "timeless".

It;s like Pantera said...I used to cover concerts at MSG and if I busted someone for smoking a joint....I would have 1 great riot on my hands!!!!!!! WE were just there for crowd control!!!! Discretion is the word!!!!!

this reminds me of a documentary i saw about some drug addicts in Newark... the camera guy followed this guy/addict into the Rowe Manse(sp?) Emporium in Bloomfield right off route 3 and filmed the guy ripping off shopping bags full of merchandise.
you would think if any law enforcement officer watched the documentary it would have to be there duty to notify the Newark police and the guy would be arrested...
maybe Reeshy can answer this one...

From my pitiful experience and knowledge of the CJ system [one course in Crim Justice], all I know is, listen to Reeshy.
After the fact, once the statute of limitations runs out, well, these days they try to get people on civil rights charges if the Crim ones dont pan out, which seems to be creeping pretty close to Double Jeopardy.
The killers of Emmett Till, after they were aquitted of murder, all but confessed and detailed how they murdered Emmett for Look Magazine, and neither ever spent a day in jail.
Weirdly, with Conspiracy laws, and Reeshy can take this coz I could be wrong, but if it's legit, you can most Certainly go to jail, for planning to commit a crime, even if said crime doesnt occur, or happens but in a different way and you werent there, or...
I suck at law, actually bought a CJ text last month and read a bit; gotta read more.

Shit I forgot the link to the Emmett Till Murder.
This was a piece on 60 Minutes the same night they had the piece on Jon Stewart and the CNN Crossfire thing.
Anyway if you never heard of this case, I beg you to read this story. My mom calls me up that SUnday, 'Watch 60 Minutes! When we lived in Chicago people would see the family!'
