Police were investigating how Veal entered the former World Trade Center site, which is protected by high fences and owned by the Port Authority.

I don't think anyone was about to come to this guys defense, or to say what a cool thing he did. But good to know you're ready to attack ASAP! Why not call him a "whore"?
And the people who caused 9/11 committed suicide as well, Does this guy support those terrorists?
Why would you kill your self to make a statement? People have already made statements to protest Iraq's war and W2. Now he put his family and financee* through this crap?

I don't know how i feel about this . . .
It's hard to respect suicide in any form, yet when i look at the Buddhist monks setting themselves on fire to protest the Vietnam War, or the mass suicides in the Warsaw Ghetto, i have nothing but respect.

Made me think of THIS guy...
Norman Morrison (born December 29, 1933, Erie, Pennsylvania, died November 2, 1965) is best known as a protester of the Vietnam War who set himself on fire (self-immolation) in front of The Pentagon building on November 2, 1965, to protest the United States involvement in the war. At the time, he was a 32-year old devout Quaker, and father of three. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norman_Morrison)
What is ever accomplished by suicide? It's basically just a messy form of giving up.

I found this quote in today's daily news HIGHLY offensive. This guy was a piece of shit and to have his blood on the same bedrock as 3000 innocents is disgusting. Fuck him and his family.
Mauney said that other than the war and the election, she didn't know what might have been troubling Veal.
"I told his mother there are some people so sensitive and intelligent and passionate they don't belong in the world the way it is today," she said.
"And if this was something he had to do, it was heroic that he chose the World Trade Center."
This guy was a piece of shit and to have his blood on the same bedrock as 3000 innocents is disgusting

Damn I was down around there from about 10 am yesterday, and the first I learned of this was in the papers this morning.
On a side note, can anyone who lives in the NY area get over how insistently absent those towers seem, even 3 years later? Those blocks really have acquired a barren, moon-like quality - like a landscape permanently in mourning. The effect is especially profound at night when its lit up by those stadium lights they installed around the perimeter.

I said:

Then you said:I know, and I'm glad those people are dead too.
So my "obvious attempt to twist your words" began with a question as to who you were referring to:
You mean the doctors who were killed by Anti-Abortion nuts?
Followed by a statement if the answer was "Yes":It would be better for women to preform abortions on themselves?
So, No, it was not an attempt to twist your words, Just to ask what you meant (I was hoping you would say, "Yes, the dead doctors", or "No, the woman who killed herself last week") and put in a bit of my own thought. (Since you said "People", it sounded like you meant the Doctors killed by Anti-Abortion protesters, and I still can't believe someone would defend them)
Get it now?

And those people would be murderers. And I don't mind saying that abortionists and abortionist-slayers are both murderers.
The worthiness of a cause should not be decided by the fanatics on the fringe of that cause. Abolitionists frequently pulled drive-bys on slave-owners in the 1800s. Tell me that's an easy one to take a stance on.

Hate to disagree here Silera.
If he had that many problems that his family saw he was going down like this, they should have helped him. I mean, they KNEW he was in trouble, because of his mothers' comments in the article. Maybe they did try to help him, maybe they didn't, but it obviously wasn't enough. If your emotional support system is that weak, and you are that messed up in the head that a PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION DRIVES YOU TO SUICIDE, then I say good.
It's better for him to do this to himself, rather than killing a girl who rejects him at a bar, or shooting someone with a t-shirt with an image of Reagan on it. He was obviously extremely on the edge, sociopathic, and had a flair for the dramatic.
And please, don't equate a board member contemplating suicide with this. A person who announces on a message board he wants to kill himself is not going to do it, it's a cry for help, sympathy, and as you said, compassion.
I don't celebrate death, I simply said "Good" because honestly, people who commit suicide disgust me. It means they've given up.

He fucking killed himself. Where is the good in celebrating it or feeling some type of joy or superiority over him?
How arrogant or pathetic are you or anyone as a person to stand in judgement?
His life was as important as anyone that died there. He was a human being that felt immense sadness. We all felt it three years ago, regardless of whether or not we lost family members there. Just remembering how empty I felt makes me cold. You have no fucking idea what he went through, or whether his family tried to help, or if he was unreachable and unconsolable.
Regardless of whatever could have been done to prevent his death, the fact is that applauding it is a vile sentiment.

Incorrect. Those people did not choose to die by their own hand. There is a giant, grand canyon sized difference by people who are murdered and a person who is so delusional that he equates that his suicide will be symbolic with those souls.
If you make that choice to end your life and follow through with it, it makes your life worthless.
EDIT: Silera, I'm not saying he wasn't right in feeling despondent or sad over the situation.
But did you want to commit suicide over it? I felt depressed as hell the week after 9/11, and I had NO ONE I could talk to face to face about it. I was holed up, in my parents' house, for a week, with my entire family stuck in four corners of the US. I had no girlfriend, and my best friend was shellshocked over the situation.
He was a dramatic attention whore who wanted to make himself a fucking martyr. THAT'S MY POINT.
Suicide is disgusting. Planning it out to the point of equating your suicide to be just as symbolic as those 3,000 lives lost three years ago is atrocious.
I wouldn't be this upset if he killed himself in his house or if he did it even in front of the White House.

All life is valuable. That's it. He didn't value his own life, and by your words, neither do you.
In effect, your sentiments equate his actions.

But how does ANYONE know why he did what he did?
As of right now, I've seen nothing that indicates he left behind ANY kind of message or note or whatever explaining why he killed himself.
So now everyone is speaking FOR him...his family, us, the media...yet nobody actually KNOWS anything.
Personally, I think suicide is the coward's way out, and quite frankly, I don't care why he did what he did. But ultimately, I don't know why...and neither does anyone else here.

His actions entitle me to my sentiments.
He found his life to be worthless. I AGREE WITH THAT. Who are YOU to judge me for agreeing with that?
He wants to kill himself, fine. You're right, it doesn't affect my life. People do it every day.
The fact that he wanted to make a statement THERE does affect my life, because it angers me that someone thinks they are as important as what happened there, when they are clearly NOT.

If you live in Georgia and wanted to kill yourself, I'm sure there's many easier methods than driving yourself 10+ hours to NYC, and offing yourself on one of the most sacred (and lets be honest, symbolic both politically and emotionally) sites in the United States.
I'm inclined to agree that this suicide was politically motivated... otherwise, he just would have had a Hemingway breakfast in the backyard.

I dismiss his actions as having value for a cause.
I would attach no label to his action other than "personal tragedy" based on what information is out there.

I'm disagreeing with you, not judging you.
I don't care why he killed himself, or where. I simply don't agree that celebrating it or judging him serves any useful purpose except pronouncing yourself as superior because you wouldn't do the same.
He's dead. Isn't that punishment enough?

People are making a lot of assumptions about this guy's motivations. There's never any justification for killing yourself, but assuming that he was trying to make a statement or reach any sort of martyrdom is a little presumptive.

How do you know?
Maybe he felt his depression was somehow linked to the site?
Maybe 9/11 was the cause of his depression?
Who knows?
Obviously there was some connection, at least in his head...but to automatically guess it was "political" is a HUGE leap, especially if he didn't leave any kind of statement.

If he went there to kill himself because he couldn't deal with someone he lost there 3 years ago, I would never pass judgement on his actions. I feel an enormous amount of sadness when I go down there and look at the site. I can't imagine the pain someone must feel if they lost one or multiple friends/loved ones that day. I don't know what it's like to be suicidal or on the verge of it, so on that count, I would never be insensitive in regard to someone committing suicide.
HOWEVER, it is said in the article (and the article is ALL I can base judgement on, because the article is all the information I've been supplied) that he killed himself in protest to the war and the re-election of Bush.
If THAT is the reason you kill yourself, I don't feel bad that you're dead.
Sorry.

The article said it.
His friends and family said it.
We've said it.
Yet he never said it.
We're just assuming.
Again, if he was SO distraught over politics enough to KILL HIMSELF...why do so without TELLING ANYONE?!? If his goal was to make a statement, like everyone is saying, then WHERE'S THE STATEMENT?!?
Quite frankly, I'm surprised MORE people haven't killed themselves on or around the site. Something of that magnitude just has to be a magnet for miserable and despairing people.

Anti Abortion people have killed Doctors (and recently themselves) because they don't want the babies killed.
Killing people is wrong, even if those people who are being killed have killed others.
I think it's a very simple concept. Don't kill people. Don't kill yourself.
I'm no fan of abortion, but once you kill the doctors, you are just a bad as you and I think they are. You become a murderer and don't deserve to live (but I'm not going to become a murderer just because someone else did.)
I'd rather have doctors preform abortions, because you aren't going to be able to stop people from having abortions.
Also, People who end up killing people to serve the death penalty aren't included in my "Don't Kill People" rule (I think I read that somewhere) I'd rather not have to give anyone the death penalty, but people who go around killing people need to go.

Who knew that the actor playing the character who came up with that craptacular idea would go on to produce craptacular movies and tv shows?!?!
