My ceiling is leaking and I plan to go up on the roof tommorrow to try and fix it myself. Does anyone know what type of material and stuff I need and other helpful tips would be greatly appreciated???

Thanks.

A ladder

I'm using the fire escape to go up on the roof. The area where it appears leaking is at the corner near the edge. I'm afraid of heights.....but you got to do what you got to do.

Memo to myself on the roof........don't look down.

Wish me luck.

Hey man i used to be a roofing contractor and if u have a normal shingled roof ur most likely going to have to change the board underneath the shingles so i wouldnt attempt that by myself ud be better offer using a pro but do not get ripped off if u get quotes from a few different companies thats ur best bet but all of them will gouge u as much as possible so watch out

Been ther, tried that...

Call a few roofing companies for quotes. I had just had the roof re-done on my back room. They were originally just going to re-shinglr, but the dude calls me and says get your ass up on this ladder!

The plywood was rotted all the way through, and water was getting into the seam where the flashing meets the wall.

If you can actually find a guy who says "get your ass up this ladder..."

Go with him!!

Whether it's roofing or Rufees, you can expect flashing, screwing, nailing, laying, hammering, and some pushing & pulling.

And then there's that mushy smelly stuff that gets all over your hands.

When you're done, you'll want to wash your balls too.

I can say that a roofer's personal politics come heavily into play when choosing jobs ...
