Im tryin to open some damn files from websites but i cant without saving them. But i just want to open them, not save the damn things. Its really friggin annoying and has just started recently after i downloaded some new package that my computer said i should cause it was some big windows update thing.
After i click on the link to open the file a box asks 'do you want to open or save this file?'. i click open. then a second or two later a box pops up that says 'The file you are downloading cannot be opened by the default program. It is either corrupted or it has an incorrect file type. As a safety precaution, it is recommended that you cancel this download. How can I decide what software to open?"
Now this isnt just one or two links here or there, its every damn one. I cant open anything without saving it, someone fix me.

it may be the new pop-up blocker built into XP-SP2.

try holding the control button down while you click the link.

Same problem.

Upgraded to MS Mediaplayer 10 - let this be the default for wmv as it suggests and problem solved it seems.

I think it was probably an SP2 prob - but as far as I can tell (well google anyway) there's only me and you in the whole world have suffered from it.

I even joined this site just to tell you!

Try removing SP2. I've avoided SP2 for these kinds of problems. XP Service Pack 1 works just fine for me.

Just bought a new computer with MP10 and SP2. I have the same problem. Tried all firewall and security options with no luck. Must be a problem with MP10. Anyone know how to fix yet?
