Do any of you experienced parents have advice on how to give medicine to a combative baby.

Have him sing "Taking Care of Business." It calms him down.

What kind of medication are we talking about
Specifically, eye drops

First of all, if you can get the liquid form, put it in an eyedropper and drop it in the mouth. Or you can get a special type of medication that can be mixed with the child's drink; it has no taste, so the baby will drink it right down. Or you can get medicine out there that tastes like candy (I know tylenol provides a grape tasting pill that my autistic student ate independently!)
If you want to do a behavioral approach, this goal is very similar to that of sampling non-preferred foods. When sampling non-preferred foods you go bite for bite with the child with a preferred reinforcer. For example, the child loves Doritos but hates salami. We hold up a Dorito, and the only way the child gets to eat the preferred edible is to take a bite of the salami. In the instance of medicine (I don't know how old your child is so I don't know if he/she has a preferred edible just yet) you can have the baby earn a preferred reinforcer for taking the medication.
There is also desensitze the child. First, let the child touch the medicine/pill. Next, the spoon/pill will go up to the mouth, but not near the lips. After that, the pill/spoon goes on the lips. The next step, the medicine goes in the mouth without swallowing. Then the child holds it in the mouth without swallowing. Finally, the child has to swallow the medicine. Each step that the chlid does successfully will be paired with a preferred reinforcer and a lot of social praise (clapping yay you did a great job! etc.) It can take awhile, but eventurally the child will take the medicine. THe key to shaping this behavior is praise each step, but once the child moves on to the next step, do not praise the previous step completed any longer.
For instance:
1. DAY 1: The child touches the pill and gets a Dorito.
2. DAY 2: The child touches the pill and lets it go by his mouth and gets a Dorito.
3. DAY 3: The child only touches the pill. The parents give no reaction and he does not get a Dorito because it is known that the child is able to bring the pill near his mouth.
4. DAY 4: The chlid touches the pill and lets it go by his mouth and gets the Dorito.

I guess with eye drops, you are going to have to do the shaping methodology. I can break it into a task analysis for you:
1. Baby lets eye dropper in his sight.
2. Baby lets eye dropper near his hand.
3. Baby lets drop go in his hand.
4. Baby lets dropper by his nose.
5. Baby lets dropper by his left eye.
6. Baby allows drop go near his left eye but not in it.
7. Baby allows drop to go in his left eye.
FOLLOW SUIT WITH RIGHT EYE
You would have to find a very very preferred item/edible and use it only with this goal. He can only have access to it if he completes the specific step. All of the other times the preferred item/edible is not available.

Ok last one... here is another non-behavioral method of getting the eye drops in the eyes of a resisting baby:
1. Remove the top of the bottle
2. Tilt your child's head back or lie your child flat with his or her eyes closed
3. Place the drop onto the side of the closed eye nearest the nose
4. Either allow your child's eye to open and the drop will bathe the eye or gently rub the drops into the eye.

you could also freeze it and give it to them like frozen candy or an ice pop (depending on how much medicine it is.) or lie to them i got my brother to eat all kinds of food telling him it was cheese. he was a finicky eater lol. and kat, you are so in charge of training my kids to be good.
