MP3 audio of the interview. 31 minutes long, 5.4 MB (http://members.cox.net/nicksporsche/The%20Many%20Meanings%20of%20The%20Matrix.mp3)
This was recorded in July, Larry Wachowski (The Brother who was the object of the Sex Change rumors) sat down to talk with Ken Wilber a philosopher and author who will be part of the Commentaries for the New Matrix Box Set in December (10 disc, 2 commentaries for each movie: 1 with Philosophers who discuss the meaning of the movies and 1 with Film Critics (no Paul O?!?!) who did NOT like the movies)
This was recorded just before Ken recorded the DVD commentary with Cornel West, another philosopher who appeared in the 2 sequels as Councillor West: The guy with the "fro" who says <b> "Comprehension is not a requisite of cooperation."</b> in the big Council Meeting Scene.

i had read that the wachowski bros wouldn't do a commentary track ... they were worried that rabid fans would take the track as some bizarre sort of cannon ...
still don't know what could possibly fill seven discs of extras ...?

1 The Matrix (remastered so it should look very good and now with new commentary tracks, I don't think the Music only Commentary track (Don Davis: (Composer) is included, the other commentary track from the original release is not either)
2 The Matrix Revisited (Same Disc that has been out for a while now)
3 The Matrix Reloaded (Same Disc that has been out for a while now with new commentary tracks)
4 The Matrix Reloaded Revisited (Same behind the scenes kind of documentary as Disc 2, which should be good)
5 The Matrix Revolutions (Same Disc that has been out for a while now with new commentary tracks)
6 The Matrix Revolutions Revisited (Same behind the scenes kind of documentary as Disc 2, which should be good, again)
7 The Animatrix (Same Disc that has been out for a while now)
8 The Roots of the Matrix: The philosophical and technological inspirations of The Matrix Trilogy, two insightful documentaries
9 The Burly Man Chronicles (probably just a bunch of that HBO behind the scenes filler stuff)
10 The Zion Archive (All the extra crap they could find, not even a full DVD, just 45 mins running time)
So remastered Matrix and the 2 new Revisited Discs should be cool, So should the 2 sets of commentary tracks for the 3 films. the other 5 discs are stuff I already have or stuff I don't care about.
If I find it cheap I'll pick it up. Costco had the Aliens 9 disc set for $42 around Christmas time (while other places had it for $90 or so) so I'll be looking for a similar deal.

In this new track, does he explain why the first movie was so cool while the other two were pieces of steaming hot shit?

Weren't there supposed to be extended cuts of each of the movies in the set?

I didn't listen to the whole thing before posting, I should have so that I could say this.
Larry does say much! But he does talk about his (and his brother's) viewpoint about celebrity and explains why he doesn't want to really explain the movies. He does seem to agree with Ken Wilber's idea of what the Matrix meant. Although Ken does state that he has agreed to not reveil what Larry has told him about what the Matrix means, I would basically think that most of what Ken says during the commentary is also what Larry and Andy were trying to do with the films.
In this new track, does he explain why the first movie was so cool while the other two were pieces of steaming hot shit?
Ken Wilber explains that the first movie by itself makes more sense to people since by itself it's a self contained movie that is very straight forward (at least to some people, it's not that deep by itself). This was done on purpose in case the first film wasn't successful and the others couldn't be made. The 2nd and 3rd parts of the trilogy are not so easily explained and do change the meaning of events and dialouge in the 1st. He also says the last 20 mins or so of the last film contain the key to the whole story.
Larry does say that the opening of the films reveil the purpose of each film (In the case of the third, that one shot of the Matirx Code disappearing, A Black Screen and then an Explosion of Matrix Code is key to the purpose)
I was disappointed by the 3rd film (I let stuff slide on the 2nd since I knew the 3rd was coming soon) but since then have grown to like them both. I view the first film two ways now. I love it as a single film that didn't need the sequels and I can see it as the 1st part of a trilogy that may or may not have been made (practical reasons forced this)
A number of years down the line people will be able to seperate their feelings for the 1st film from their feelings of the morphing the story into the Trilogy and it will be seen as a very bold idea of a story that was hidden behind an action film.
Weren't there supposed to be extended cuts of each of the movies in the set?
That was just a rumor, It was thought that the Enter The Matrix Game footage would be added in, but the live action stuff that was filmed wouldn't make sense without some of the other footage which was animated to look like the game play (and that would be stupid to include in the film itself) and none of it really adds much to the overall story, they just added to Jada and Ghost's story (Ghost was in love with Trinity, and that plot goes nowhere!)

According to this (http://www.gothamist.com/archives/2003/11/04/larry_wachowski_looks_womanly.php) the lady on the left (in the Black suit white shirt that is much like the suit Tarantino puts in a lot of his films (Uma in Pulp Fiction, The suit Jackie Brown Buys during the Money Trasfer scene, the Suit Elle Driver wears)) is Linda Wachowski (Formerly Larry Wachowski) taken at the MAtrix Revolutions Premiere last year. I don't think it's him. but these two are him:
<img src="http://www.gothamist.com/images/2003_6_larrywachowski.jpg"><img src="http://www.gothamist.com/images/2003_6_larrywachowski2.jpg">
I always thought this was just a big rumor (Fueled by the fact that the Brothers don't talk much despite having a HUGE project out) Is there anything to it?
I'm not passing judgement, Just thinking this might add something to one's interpretation of the Matrix Story, or at the very least may be part of the reason Neo and Trinity sometimes look a little too similar.

it really annoyed me to no end that they filmed scenes just for the video game ...
if i remember from a dvd extra, the scenes had a lot to do with the jada smith character leading up to the freeway chase, and the opening scene to the second movie that was also in the animatrix ...

would it be better if they just reused footage from the movies in the Game, or didn't have any live action footage in the Video Game?
I thought it was cool that they filmed extra stuff, but it was extra stuff that wasn't needed in the movie. It's not like it cost a lot to film a few extra minutes with minor characters (I think Trinity was in one scene, and the Main Trio Neo, Morpheus and Trininy were in another that just looked like a different take during the "Captain's meeting" scene at the begining.)

It was thought that the Enter The Matrix Game footage would be added in,
Two seperate rumors. It was supposed to include the game footage as extras, but extended cuts of all three movies.
The problem with the Matrix as a trilogy is that it doesn't make sense without certain Animatrix shorts, the game story, and all three movies. The entire Naiobe story from the game plays into certain characters (Morpheus' love triangle), tells certain story bits (like linking the Flight of the Osiris to the movies), and adds plot elements (how she was in the broken down ship in the third movie).
