Texas Conservatives Win Curriculum Change, Erase The Seperation Of Church And State.

After three days of turbulent meetings, the Texas Board of Education on Friday approved a social studies curriculum that will put a conservative stamp on history and economics textbooks, stressing the superiority of American capitalism, questioning the Founding Fathers’ commitment to a purely secular government and presenting Republican political philosophies in a more positive light.
They also replaced the word “capitalism” throughout their texts with the “free-enterprise system.”

“Let’s face it, capitalism does have a negative connotation,” said one conservative member, Terri Leo. “You know, ‘capitalist pig!’ ”

Why would a conservative be against using the term capitalism...?

They said it has a "bad connotation" these days. Face it... Free Enterprising Pigs, just doesn't sound as bad as capitalist pigs.

Yes, but just because capitalist pigs is bad doesn't mean that capitalism is bad. It's so dumb. People get so concerned over words.

Since Texas buys the most textbooks I expect to see this showing up in other states as well, and its totally fucked up but I expect some group will file some injunction. Texas is a battleground for so many of these type of issues

I remember hearing that. The quanity of the books Texas receives greatly influences other states.

Yes.

Still, in America we thrive on capitalism. It seems so inane to me to change the name and think people will forget what it is. If you have a problem with capitalism, you'll have a problem with Free Enterprise too.

What gets me is that conservatives are anti big government. Yet pro big business.
These two things go hand in hand due to government contracts.
Its not like they have ever been pro SBA.

Over stuff like this (my guess)

Church Has Not Tried Over 60% Of Priests Accused Of Sexual Abuse

The priests in those cases were subject to "administrative and disciplinary provisions" such as instructions not to celebrate Mass or hear confessions, Scicluna told L'Avvenire, the Italian Catholic bishops' newspaper, on Saturday.

I'm as untheistic as possible, but I don't think it makes sense to condemn all religion because of the way big-box catholicism is run.
