I read a brief mention in this months FHM about this new show from Seth MacFarlane the creator of The Family Guy. This new show sounds pretty funny.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
From the creator of "The Family Guy," this animated series revolves around a CIA agent who is a bit on the edge. At home, in addition to his wife and kids he has a German-speaking goldfish for a pet and a sarcastic alien he rescued from Area 51.

from the Fox (http://www.foxnow.com/americandad/index.cfm?tv_id=1941&template=2&action=1) website...

SYNOPSIS:

Stan Smith works for the CIA and is always on the alert for terrorist activity. Stan's wife, the sweet Francine, has carefully hidden her party-girl personality for the sake of the conservative man she loves. But make no mistake - Francine's doting persona has its limits, and she's not afraid to put her man in his place. Stan is constantly butting heads with his ultra-liberal daughter, 18-year-old Hayley. Hayley's 13-year-old brother, the hapless, geeky Steve, seems to be on the verge of puberty, but can't quite make it. The Smith household also has two rather unconventional members. There's Roger, the sarcastic space alien Stan rescued from Area 51 who deeply resents the fact that he's not allowed to leave the house, and Klaus, a lascivious, German-speaking goldfish - the result of a CIA experiment gone seriously wrong. The task for this family of radically different personalities is to continue to love each other in a world that seems increasingly stressful. And with a guy like Stan leading the way, it's bound to be one heck of a ride!

I am looking pretty forward to this as I viewed the pilot a few months ago here (http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/viewmessages.cfm/Forum/80/Topic/40410/page/American_Dad_pilot_now_available_for_download__.ht m).

I just wish FOX would give more attention to it's animated shows. The thing I think really screws up their Prime Time hours is having The 10 O' Clock News. Most nights that cuts out a good portion of possible PT programs. Sure, it could be more reality show garbage but there could also be slots filled with more new shows and more attention given to existing shows. Granted I am NOT the biggest King of the Hill or Malcolm in the Middle fan those shows are put on at 7 and most times cut up by football to even have a chance to air.

-The Alien character kicks ass....

-Im not very high on the Francine character...

-The dad and the kid characters are cool...

-Definitely has a lot of Family Guy tendencies...

I really enjoyed it. Very, very funny. Dont know how many storylines they can really come up with, but McFarlane has made it worked before, Im sure he'll be able to make it work for a while...

Best quote "Can I be excused, Im having my Steve", with "You know the Silver family at 14 Elm? Yeah, lets deport them" as a close second...

And that Family Guy Law and Order ad was hilarious.

That was me when "Family Guy" debuted. I was really slow to warm up to it, and by the time I got really into it, it was on its way out. This time around, I gave "American Dad" a shot and really liked it. There were two of three times that I really laughed.

In May there will be new episodes of both shows - can't wait!

For some reason...people feel the need to compare this show to FAMILY GUY instead of just grading it on it's own merits.
Same thing happened when FUTURAMA debuted. Everyone was so busy comparing it to the THE SIMPSONS that they couldn't just sit back and enjoy the show for what it was.

Honestly, the show was ok. It started off pretty strong, but it sort of died out as the show went on. The wife is just a horrible horrible character. They should just axe her already. I gave the fish a chance (exaggerated German voices = always funny), but it didn't go the way I wanted. The alien was cool, but come on. It's an alien. I'll watch the first few episodes. If they suck, I'm done watching it.

And, even though people really shouldn't compare it to Family Guy, it's pretty hard to when its drawn the same, and the set up is the same, and its creator is the same. It's sort of hard to ignore that idea.

Seth Macfarlane can't help it he's only a guy who can do a bunch of voices. He lost most of the original writers who did "Family Guy" with him, and apparently they carried most of the weight.

It was alright, but the dad wasn't very strong, the mom sucked and so did the sister. I loved the alien, but the fish didn't seem very well developed atleast in that epesode.

I'm on the fence with the kid. Anyway, over all I'm willing to give it another chance, but it reminds me so much of Family Guy all the way down the the voices and the comedy.

Sure, not as familiar to us as the Simpsons, FG or South Park, but better than 90% of the shit on tv these days. I think I could fit it into my Tivo as long as he makes fun of Bush on a weekly basis. And that shouldn't be too hard.

Overall, give it longer than the 20 minute pilot in which they had to introduce the characters. I'm sure more substance will come once they get past the first few episodes.
