PC game makers

I have bought 3 PC titles in the last month and none of them came with a Jewel case or any kind of manual, I could see if this was a cost cutting measure but games havent gotten any less expensive, furthermore a game like Half Life 2 where your cd code serial number is so important, not to have a case seems just wrong, my freind thinks the lack of manuals is a ploy to get you to buy all the game guides
