I was looking at the worst movie thread, and I thought to myself why not a thread about the best music that came out.

I have two nominations for this.

My Chemical Romance-'3 cheers for sweet revenge'

jimmy eat world-'futures'

Other albums that could be up there could be 'American Idiot' by green day, or chevelles latest effort 'this type of thinking (could du us in)'.

What say you?

I forgot about the Clash! I knew they reissued London Calling but I forgot about the other album that came with it.

I also forgot about social distortions album, which I haven't picked up yet, though I plan too.

The beastie boys album actually dissapointed me.

That "London Calling" re-issue was a joke.

In a year of fantastic re-issues, that one stunk up the place. The "extras" consisted of really, REALLY shitty demos. Booooo. The only worth getting was the DVD.

No, it doesn't.

Some songs were abandoned at a certain stage for a reason. Or changed, or re-written. These are pure fillers, through and through. Nothing "new" or unreleased. Only practice versions of thes ongs that made it to the album, and none of them are really any different except that they sound like they were recorded with shittier equipment. Complete waste of disc space, and a joke of a re-issue. The sound isn't even re-mastered or anything. It's basically just a desperate grasp at grabbing cash, and I'm saying that as a giant Clash fan...I couldn't wait for this to come out, and it ended up being one of the worst music purchases I've ever made. A total rip-off if you already own "London Calling."

By far the best album I have heard in quite some time has to be

American Idiot by Green Day.

It was just so complete. PERIOD!

Other goodies I got this year:

Pelican - Australasia

If you ever liked Kyuss or just want to drift off into a fucking groove like you never heard in your life, check this out. No vocals and the music just carries you away.

Mastodon - Leviathan

Heavy and crushing yet melodic and deep. This telling of Herman Melville's Moby Dick put to music was one of the best ROCK records I heard all year. A definite classic in every sense of the word.

SNFU - In Time and In Between Time

Not only pulling from the Stampede Wrestling broadcasts of old but these old fossils from Vancouver can still put out a good album. Hence the whole reason I started the bands who could literally shit on a record and I would listen thread. Good fun skate punk that has never lost an edge. That Chi-Pig is pretty witty too.

planesmistakenforstars - up in them guts

Maybe it is just because I got it but this reminds me of the early Jawbreaker stuff but a tad bit heavier. Just some fucking rock that will make you move. Good stuff. Nice to see Gainesville still has some good bands.

My Chemical Romance - Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge

It made me moist. Enough said. This album just kicks ass.

they can't play the really good ones because they are 9 minutes long. And you actually wasted time writing Avril Lavigne, so any comment you have on anything non-Metal has to be scrutinized greatly.
