This is really sad to hear... The man responsible for all classic organ sounds that we've grown to associate with Yankee Stadium has died at 77.
An unsung Yankee legend (http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/nyy/news/nyy_news.jsp?ymd=20041227&content_id=926156&vkey=news_nyy&fext=.jsp).

Seriously, could he have looked ANY other way?
That is exactly the mental image anyone would have a of a guy like him. Amazing. I wanna BE him when I'm old.

Now they have so much canned music, played unnecessarily loud. I loved the kinda cheesy organ sounds Eddie did. Was part of the whole Yankee experience. He'll be missed.
BTW How much longer can the "voice of God" Bob Sheppard keep going? He's like 90+

The day after Mickey Mantle died, Eddie Layton was playing Somewhere Over the Rainbow before the game. I read that Mantle liked this song and always wanted Eddie to play it.
And it's true, the music at the games is way out of hand. Does every player have to have his own song played when he comes to bat? At the end of last season, whenever Jeter came to bat, they played this rap song, some shit like "my name's Big Philly!"
Hey, Big Philly, you choked against the Red Sox, hitting .200.

"The principal benefit acting has afforded me is the money to pay for my psychoanalysis."
He did the Knicks and Rangers, too.
I loved when the organ would be played for "De-FENSE!" at Knick games.

I met and shook Eddie Layton's hand in Mickey Mantle's Restaurant. Nice guy. Kind of hobbit-ish. Class act. Sort of Bilbo Baggins-ish.

God needed waiting music with all the new entries this week, 'cos you know he's a Yankee fan. By the way, the Jeter comment is laughable. Was he choking diving into the stands in July? Where was nomar in July? Oh that's right, he needed another day's rest. Joe D is a legend and teddy ballgame is an ice cube.
