are you using dreamweaver? or are you hand-coding it?

You create a new stylesheet, and under "background", choose the image you want to use, then you have the option to repeat horizontally, repeat vertically, or "no repeat." Choose "no repeat" and you can also choose whether you want it centered or to the left or to the right.

to stop tiling in a background, you need to use css.

John I was just about to post the exact same thing. CSS is really the way to go. start to learn it. it makes things so much easier, and there is a demand out there for good CSS programmers.

I am aware. The directions above work if you don't know how to hand code them. But I was saying there is no alternative. Either use stylesheets or tile. No alternatives.
