What is the deal with Caffeine?

-Is it really that bad for me?
-When I do not have my coffee I get a headache the size of Afghanistan.
-Is it really more addictive than smoking?

I ask because I am on duty now and I just slammed a large Dunkin Donuts coffee and I have my uniform shirt pulled up over the back of my head and I am running around with my arms up yelling...
"I am Lieutenant Cornholio....yeah yeah yeah !"

I feel like a crackhead on stacker 2.

Are you a coffee addict and
this was your first cup in a
long time? Usually addicts
get headaches if they don't
have the coffee. I think I've
had two cups of coffee my
whole life. I'm too wired
naturally for that.

I heard caffiene is more
addictive than cigs also. I
also heard that the combo
of caffiene and sugar that
they cure the tobacco in is
the real "drug" in the cigs.
Sounds like urban legend
to me.

Don't smoke, wouldn't
know. Although I would like
to smoke some pot
sometime.

Maybe Fez can hook me
up?

In the end, all of this means
nothing.

i too am a coffee drinker and I do drink a lot of coffee. If I'm off it for a day I'm ok but the second day I'm very irritable and bitter and have massive headaches. Most days I'm usally in the five cup range and occsionally i'll substitute tea for coffee.

and no I don't smoke cigarettes, haven't had pot in awhile (this will be remedied come next week) and haven't smoked cigars though I might this weekend.

I gave up cigarettes cold turkey 7 months ago. I have quit drinking for months at a time. But I have never been able to give up coffee for more than 2 or 3 days. I get wailing headaches, too, when I try.

Do they have a Caffeine-oholics Anonymous?

Very interesting research going on now regarding coffee and links to depression. Studies suggest that women who drink 2-3 cups of coffee a day are less likely to commit suicide than those who do not.

Caffeine is the problematic ingrediant in coffee, not the coffee itself. Caffeine is found in many foods, including tea, chocolate, pain killers and soft drinks, but coffee usually has a much higher level of caffeine than any other sourse (typically about 100 to 130 milligrams per cup).

Caffeine can temporarily increase your blood pressure and if you have a heart condition it can make your heart race but it does not appear to permenantly elevate blood pressure or cause a heart condition.

Surprisingly, there appears to be a link to reduced fertility in women and consumption of caffeine. So if you're trying to have a baby, limit your coffee intake.

Coffee gives you a rush when the caffeine enters the bloodstream and blocks the body's natural tranquillizer adenosine. This constricts certain blood vessles in the brain causeing a surge of adrenaline to be released.

But afterwards you feel more tired (and want another cup of coffee). This spiral is cumulative because adrenaline which is not burnt off by exercise builds up and results in stress and tiredness.

In the short term a caffeine hit can improve endurance and large motor skills at the expense of fine motor skills. By making you jittery, it interferes with co-ordination of the muscles in the hands - so surgeons should give the super strong Colombian blend a miss.

Damn, hearing about all of this makes me want to go to 7-11 now to get me a cup!

I stopped drinking several years ago but started again this year on a flight to LA to calm my ass down.

Coffee is really the only good source of caffeine I can get. I stopped drinking soda, since it bloats me up.

The best coffee out there in my opinion is starbucks, 7-11 french vanilla or Dunkin Donuts coffee!

It's also funny that I always drink it black.
