I just saw a Blockbuster commercial that said they have no more late fees. How does that work? Can i keep anything I rent now? Are we on the honor system now? i just don't get it.

Not exactly. (http://www.blockbuster.com/corporate/displayFAQDetails.action?faqId=1090566)

What do you mean by "the end of late fees?"

A: For any reason, if you are unable to return the movies or games by their due date, you won't be charged additional fees for keeping them an extra day or two.

What if I forget to bring back a movie or game? Won't you charge me something at some point?

A: If you still have a movie or game seven (7) days after the due date shown on your receipt, we will convert your rental to a sale. The movie or game will be sold to you at the selling price in effect at the time of rental, which is either the retail price, or, when available, at the previously-rented selling price, less the initial rental fee you paid.

That's quite the fine print.

Now if you dont bring it back they just go ahead and charge your credit card $39.99, they assume you just bought the video.

From what I read in the paper, If you don't return the DVD or video game within one week of the due date they charge you for the price of the product.

Thus If you rent a $50 game, don't return it within a week, you have to pay $50.

I don't go there anymore, I'll just buy the DVD.

I'M GETTING BILLY STAPLES BIG ASS CARD!!!

I worked there many moons ago.
It was fun to charge someone's cc for the price of the tapes (back when they were $99.99) and 21 days worth of late fees.

What is missing here is that if you do return the movie "eventually" they will credit you and return the extra money.

They still suck though. I am a huge netflix fan, but my Pay Per View are down to $3.95 for 24 hours (Cheaper than Blockbuster and no annoying walks to the store)

Blockbuster, especially for videos, is, and will always be, a ripoff.

Wait let me get this straight. So this (practical) monopoly of home video rental's answer to being ousted by Netflicks is to take away late fees, extend the grace period by a week, and then charge you the full amount of a movie or game which could be as much as fifty bucks?

Wow they really think people are stupid. They are actually going to get to charge MORE!!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!! What CULEROS!!!!!

Don't piss on my head an tell me it's raining!

If you want Blockbuster to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, they will, they've got spare time. (and LOTS of bullshit!!!)

I was thinking about switching to blockbuster. I currently use Netflix but there is ALWAYS a wait for the movies (mostly new releases) I want. Do you think switching would be a bad idea? Blockbuster is 3 bucks cheaper...not that it matters but if I'm guarenteed a movie when I ask for it then I will gladly try them out.

DreamWeaver, I'm a netflix customer and I am currently doing the two week trial of blockbuster online and the service is just as fast and their are less "waits" for the discs. I might make the move.

You also get two coupons every month for your blockbuster store. Can use for two free video games or movies rentals.

That just happened to my brother today, he got slapped with the purchase fee after being too late. He doesn't understand why becaue BB hasn't explained it to the customers at all. Plus, they have a netflix like deal that's 14 dollars instead of 16, but what they don't tell you is that after the first month it jumps to i believe 29.99

I don't know if this lawsuit will really go anywhere.

I mean What do you REALLY expect? To play 7 bucks for a movie or game, and when you NEVER bring it back, you'll get charged NO FEE?

Logically, I say the suit has no grounds, but good thing logic isn't always in place in court.

That was pretty much Blockbuster's whole ad campaign.

But, digging further, there are late fees. If you keep the movie more than 7 days, they charge you as if you bought it, and if you return it you are charged a $1.50 "restocking fee" and they don't even refund you money, just store credit.

Just because they called it a "restocking" fee they think they can get away with saying they have no more late fees. That's simply not the case, and IMO this system is worse.

That being said, I think this suit is not worth it at all, even if it ends up being successful. Just let people figure this crap out for themselves and Blockbuster will go further down the tubes than they already are. Between Netflix and Wal-Mart, most of the nails are already in the coffin.

And every Red Sox fan is determined to pretend that this never happened, and that it didn't taint the moment even a little bit ... so it wasn't a huge deal.
