R&F brought out the bad interview bit out for the first time since Wonderboy left. You know the bit -- R&F get a phone interview and fake callers like Iris, Andre, Jan and others call in with questions. Some new additions -- Roxy Carmichael as done by a certain Crazy friend of the show and Myron as played by a former intern.

It was a particularly good one, and the interview was a natural health author who was so amped up for the interview who ended up genuinely annoyed by the end.

I'll have this bit added to the file library in a few days.

"The claims are in the book"

He kept saying this because these guys who shill for "heath products" have to be very careful not to claim that their products actually do anything. They can say "It'll get rid of the gunk" but they can't say "It will cure the flu". They really have to walk a knife's edge to sell the product without actually making any falsifiable claims.

Damn that sounds funny. I'll have to give that show a listen.

My favorite interview of recent outside of R&F was when O&A had a woman on the phone who wrote a book and while they were interviewing her they were tearing her book apart on the air, and Lil' Jimmy Norton used the name "Conner Peterson". Plus their callers were all phony as well. It was very funny.

I love when these shows do this to their unsuspecting guests. Bravo Ron and Fez!

Seriously, the Andre the Giant was simply the best - how he got upset with the author/doctor when he questioned as to whether this was a real call or not.

I don't know if anyone caught Fez doing his "Jan Brady" very briefly towards the end of the Christmas show/last show of 2004? It was just such a wonderfully random and obtuse reference to Jan's boyfriend, "George Glass."

I think it was during the part where Private Pyle/Kane was hitting on Paulie Louse Bowel's sister, and she said she had a boyfriend - bam, there was Jan Brady. Line for line, the call back to an episode where Jan had a pretend boyfriend.

I don't remember Fez doing Jan before, but then again it's also been a LONG time since we've heard from "Andre."

Jan's a standard caller for bad guests and has been making appearances ever since the bad guest segment's been introduced.

Funny stuff. I really liked Ron's take and the slant on his jokes. He made it so clear he wasn't buying any of the good doctors drug company conspiracy crap. They even worked in the words "Snake Oil" a few times. And (sp) Myu Oil too. Loved that bit.

BTW On a public station today I heard a guy promoting "The Sherlock Holmes Society" People who are like Trekkies, but for Sherlock Holmes. Intellectual Star Trekkies. I wish R+F could interview that geek.

The third "Bad Interview" of the year is coming up this evening - I think this is the first time they've promoed it and "lifted the veil" of who do what voices; the best part of them talking about it was Ron mentioning who was going to be doing Fez's voice.

Roxie Carmichael should be back, but she is threatening to come in as a new character, and maybe the debut of Clementine Tran (aka Dubs).

As much as I missed the bad interviews during 2004 and before that, now it seems that they are doing them too frequently. Its a great bit, but honestly its the same bit over and over again, which is fine (IMO) when they do it once a month or every other month, but once a week or once every two weeks is too much. I love Iris and Andre but its losing its freshness with the recent frequency of their appearance. I hope they dont burn this bit out and then not go back to it for another year or so like last time (although I dont think they burned it out last time, they just stopped doing it).

There are always new listeners who never heard them from before, so it's all new to them. Also, you never know when they will get the guest that will just snap and freak out.

Ron did say a week or so ago he'd be happy doing an entire show of bad interviews to see how quickly they burned on it - I'm sure once they are tired doing them, they'll shelve it - like they finally did with the Fezitorials - which are completely different from the weekly catty moments or the occasional "open letter."

I thought it was a good one. It was a little different because the guest was one of the oddest they've ever had -- so much so that Dubs had nowhere to go with the Clementine character and just tanked. However, the interplay between R&F at the beginning reacting to the name of the show being changed to "the Bennington show" (also at the end of the segment, before the guest hangs up, Fez blurts out "I'm really the co-host") Iris making all of the Dennis DeYoung and Styx references was very funny, too.

At the end of the interview, after the break, a woman called in and said, instead of just "Bennington Live", they should come up with a name that includes Fez. Ron blurted out "Bennington and Hillier". Fez said that he thought that name was stupid, like he does when the name "Todd" is mentioned. I've been listening forever now, and I don't think I've ever heard a reference to a possible real last name for Fez. Could this be it?
