I have always wondered these questions about these two magnificient forms of transportation :
* Before, my radio wouldn;t work when riding in the tunnels.. Now they were clearly.. How did that happen?
* What happens to people who change lanes.. How do they track them and fine them?
* What's up with those little booths and tiny sidewalks?
* Why does the Holland Tunnel look so nice, bright, and upkept while the Lincoln Tunnel looks all dark & ghetto, and has mostly all the yellow divider rods (sticks) missing?
Feel free to add any more facts...

You even have to ask? Cuz Lincoln freed the slaves and people are still mad about that.

01 - i'd take a guess that there're newly placed antennae for cellphones, that might boost the FM reception ...
02 - cameras
03 - the booths are for monitoring accidents and such, and the walkways are for their use and if passengers ever need to walk out of the tunnel ...
04 - the midtown tunnel bunnies are just a disgusting lot, while the tribeca crowd take much more pride in their tunnel ...

the antennas arent for cell phones, they are for radios for the port authority and police radios and that is why the radio works
and the side walks are less for motorists, more for workers to access the tunnel to repair things, being its underwater

I see cars cross lanes all the time and have never seen a police car waiting on the other side to ticket them.
Good. They have bigger problems to worry about than someone who switches lanes.

thats exactly why you dont see it, plus where the fuck is a cop gonna stay, he'll get killed, they dont care about that shit, people change lanes more in the tunnell then after it ive noticed

They're serious about not allowing lane-changing because it will cut down on accidents. Aside from the fact that they block up the road, an accident in the tunnel is dangerous since there's a constant stream of oxygen coming into the middle of the tunnel which would feed any fires that resulted.

Back in the day before we worried about little things like carbon monoxide and other pollutants cops used to sit in those booths and watch traffic for an entire shift. They would get there by walking along the sidewalks.
