I leave in 3 hours for South America. I will be uploading pictures and writing in my Foundry Blog. I'll also be checking in to the board whenever possible to update y'all on the going's on down there.

14 hour flight, I leave at 5:50, arrive in Chicago then leave for Argentina 2 hours later.

I'll be staying at the Kempinski Park Elegance in the Recoleto, (kinda like the Beverly Hills of Argentina).

Bear in mind everythign there is dirt cheap b/c thier economy collapsed, so i get to stay in a really nice hotel for pennies.

Adios RF.NET!

Helpful tips.

#1. If a local dares you to swallow 20 condoms filled with white powder to win a bar bet - make sure you see the money first.

#2. If the British decide to attack the Falklands again while you're there be sure to tell the gun toting Limeys you're American and that you think Oasis are "bloody brilliant".

#3. If you run into the Miss World entry from Argentina (see pic below) - make sure that Missy is busy touring the Eva Peron museum at the time.

<img src=http://picsrv.missworld.tv/fif=/missworld/img_399_1874.fpx&obj=iip,1.0&wid=270&hei=441&rgn=0,0,0,0&cvt=jpeg>

To buy authentic Argentine socccer gear, electronics, and native music, take the colectivo(I think it is the 42) to Pompeya. It is no where near Recoleta, more like Ironbound section of Newark.
Anyway, perfectly safe, real down to earth people.
While there, have a Churipan and a Quilmes at "El Jaguel" Tell them Juansito sent you!!
Buy wine at the supermarket across the street.
Cabernet Soviniogn for a buck@ liter.
When buying Matte, go for Cruz de Malta.
Buy a jar of Dulce de Leche to go with your morning Medialunes ($2.00/doz.)

Make an appointment to tour the Boletta (stock exchange) Fantastic! If you want to take a meeting, PM me. You may not make a ton of money, but you get to sit in really comfortable leather chairs in a marble palace!!
Around the corner is the money museum. Really interesting to see how recession, depression. dollar pegging, etc, has affected the Argentine economy.
When I have more time, I will try and give you more places to see.

Shit, I could even call Tio Carlito y Don Carlos and arrange a personal banquet for you guys.

More tips to come.

(liter of Quilmes - $0.50, pack o' Marlboros $1.
Go to the kiosko.)

Two days...two delicious steaks...i don't think I can adequately describe the deliciousness of steaks down here...the flavor is nearly as sweet as the price....less than 4 dollars for which an equivalent would fetch nearly $25 in the states...quite possibly the cheapest, delectable meal i've ever had...

everyone down here is for the most part thin and beautiful...i really do believe it has a lot to do with diet, as the cuisine down here is mostly meat and cheese...

it's hot but not uncomfortably so, and the people for the most part are friendly and accomodating, even to those who speak the language as poorly as myself...

Jeff takes really bad pictures of me.

The second day of our trip I decided to traipse around in my new strappy stiletto sandals I had never worn before. Argentina has to have the shittiest sidewalks ever. Being that the shoes were new and we did a lot of walking, they actually cut open my feet. I came home to about 12 giant festering open sores all over my feet. They got progressively worse until the last day.

Its a good thing that didn't happen the first day when we went to the city pool, which is actually really really nice and expensive by Argentinian standards to get into. Before they let you into the pool you have to see a doctor who checks your feet and armpits for fungus.

I kept putting SPF 30 on my pale gringo body the whole trip, but we took a boat ride to Uraguay and rented mopeds to drive around the town and the sun there actually burned me through the suntan lotion and I had a wicked bright red sunburn which I am still getting over. I was actually too much of a pussy to drive the mopeds (which were more like motorcycles), so they rented me a ATV 4-wheeler thing to drive around on, which was 10 times more dangerous. Uraguay was really relaxed and laid back.

The steak is really good there - I've never eaten anything like it before, but those fuckers don't know how to cook anything else but steak. I hear the italian food there was supposed to be good, but their idea of pizza is bread with no sauce, some strange gross cheese and an olive on each slice. Their pasta is thick and soggy. They also don't know how to make apple martinis anywhere except for one glorious bar I found. I kept trying to explain how to make it to people and they acted like I was nuts (manzana y martini!). I did see a drink called 7o Regiminte which I assumed was like a Long Island Iced Tea and I was very very wrong because I now think that meant "7th degree of Hell" or something becuase it was awful awful awful. Jeff's friend drank it at an outside cafe and he ran into a bar asking for water saying 7 in spanish and they knew exactly what drink he was talking about.

The cab drivers there cheat death every single day. We feared for our lives everytime we took a cab. Also, all the women are all impossibly skinny and beautiful.

EVERYTHING down there is super cheap. A pack of Marlboro was like 2 pesos (75 cents american). You can eat a delicious huge steak dinner with many drinks for like $4 american. They had a lot of really nice sweaters and leather goods. A nice leather purse would run like $30 pesos ($10) a sweater like $20 pesos ($7). Jeff got a Yves St Laurent suit for under $100, and a bunch of clothing at Dior for around $100. Unfortunately I learned though my limited Spanish and shouting of English over and over again that they don't have ANY Burberry, Dior, Yves St Laurent, etc. WOMENS CLOTHING throughout all of Argentina (DAMN THEM).

The flight was realllly really long. This was actually my first trip out of the country besides Canada and it was a good time, even with all the injuries.

PS - I was worried about my stupid cats the whole time. They were fine when I got back and after ignoring me for a few hours they are back to normal.

Mainly, I was just picturing the scene in "Desperado" when the American girls go into Cheech Marin's scuzzy Mexican bar and demand a waiter.

DAMN JEFF AND HIS STYLIN' WAYS!!!! don't worry missy if you ever want some snazzzy looking clothing for a decent price you know where to go *wink*
