NO ONE could play to the camera and the audience like Carson. King of skits, king of great interviews with a comic twist. Get one of his regular guests on there and they just had a great time.

Even though he wasn't doing anything in public recently, I will miss him.

Very sad, but it was probably his time. It's kind of odd -- he'd been completely out of the public for most of the time of his retirement, and just last week it was revealed that he was sending Letterman jokes for his monologue.

My quote was not saying that I didn't know who carson was... but one of his crutches (not exactly a catchphrase, but a definite crutch) was saying "I did not know that" while doing bits. You'll see it from anyone who does a Carson impression, specifically Dana Carvey.

He was a little before my time and I was never into the whole late night thing.

I do know Leno Sucks, Letterman is better, and even though Conan is the funnier of the three, Letterman is still the best at what he does.

But Carson will always be the one who invented it....

I guess Carson was just the King of a more innocent age.
Personally.....I dont think he was all THAT funny but, his show was before my time. Comedy doesn't always age gracefully. Especially when you do a topical/nightly show.

He is directly responsible for the late night talkshow...and INDIRECTLY responsible for the networks' creation of SNL....both of which, I love.

And he had class. Not too many entertainers can say that. He was number one. Said goodnight. Took a bow. And walked away. That IS cool.
