With Crude oil prices 40% higher per barrel than a year ago, Exxon Mobil had its best quarter ever for profits, But still gasoline prices are well over $2 per gallon.

There has been alot of talk about drilling for oil in Alaska, though it wont be a permanent solution, it can buy time so we can come up with alternative fuels, so we can finally tell OPEC to go F Themselves

this an example of what i've been talking about regarding corporate greed...

what's probably the 'key' factor in this situation is the stock market. they have to continue posting improved profits to keep the price of the stock up and the dividends going

i'm sure very few middle class or people in poverty have stock in Mobil so they just get to pay out the ass for the gas

if the poverty level wasn't increasing and the rich didn't continue to get richer at the rate it is and it leveled off or hopefully would start to swing back where the poverty level decreases then i wouldn't be as pissed off about it


hopefully a terrorist flies a plane into the house of the Mobil CEO and some high level executives are there having lunch. Maybe blow up their golf carts while their riding from the 8th to the 9th hole

Yes those CEO's are scumbags, but wishing something like that is too extreme, this is a serious topic which affects all of us, lets not make this discussion get locked

i hear ya! i wouldn't think they'd lock the thread but more like lock my ass out...


the reality is what can be done to turn this around?
i can see people struggling to make a living, friends, family, friends of friends, friends of family, and then you see the profits of these corporations. how much is enough?

couldn't they cut the price of their gas in half and get away with just making 4 billion profit for the quarter?

couldn't bill gates have sold his product for half the price and just have a net worth of 30 billion instead of 60 billion?

there is a cycle and cause/affect thing that goes on

people are having a tough time making ends meet, so now they're working two jobs. what does that mean?

they have to sometimes commute twice as much which means spending more gas money.
people are stressed so that means their spending more on doctor bills, taking more prescription medicines.

then people that have been laid off have a higher increase of not paying a bill. so what happens, the next time they need a loan and there is a mark on their credit they pay exorbitant interest rates...

and the executives continue to get exorbitant pay increases and bonuses. there has been recent articles on CNN that vouch for this

there are companies in America that have chosen not to move their operations overseas and are dedicated to the community. they still make a profit and people keep their jobs. maybe not as much profit as if they moved their operations overseas but everyone is making a decent living...

i say abolish the stock market for now and figure out a different system that levels the playing field a little bit

Well you have to remember, OSHA regulates the crude oil prices, not the free market. I'm not sure how much power ExxonMobil has when it comes to the prices of crude oil which will effect the gas prices in the end.
