Nurse/Nursing School

I'm getting older and I'm thinking about careers. Because of my medical history I've been thinking about going into nursing. I would love to help people, and it's a two year thing that pays well. I was just curious if anyone is familiar with nursing or anything. Thanks.

My roommate in college was a nursing major. The only male nursing student in the class. He was never lacking for female company if you get my drift.

Its a noble profession. Add the fact that it may help you get laid doesn't hurt one bit.

I'm not familiar with the specifics of your condition Keithy, but if it causes you to catch illnesses (liek colds and such) more often you really need to think about it. Not that it shoudln't stop you entirely. I've heard of people with my condition becoming doctors and nurses, and they are putting themselves at major risk by doing that. just make sure you consider the risks.

Depending on what you do, caring for the extremely sick, severly injured and dying may be part of your job. That part could be very emotionally taxing on you. Just a thought.

Don't forget you have to work with needles and stuff if you have to give injections. My parents wanted me to go into the medical field to be a doctor or even a nurse but after looking at my mom's medical journals, there's some nasty shit you have to see. And it didn't help that I can't stand the sight of blood. But go figure, I've been working with nurses and doctors in the mental health field.

Try to remember why you were interested in this field Keith, just be aware of the reality of your choice. Every career has it's ups and downs. It seems that the ups of Nursing could be very great.

I do a shot to myself every night. Not a problem.

I'm also gunna go for my EMT license this summer so I can join the resuce squad in my town. My brothers already did it, and I looked through there textbook. Pretty ansty stuff, but nothing that made me turn away. The placenta was the closest thing to doing that.

My brother was an ER technician for about 3 years before becoming a phlebotomist.

The stories he used to tell me were not so easy on the stomach BUT every type of Hospital job is different and im sure you won't be relegated to the same duties as an ER technician(unless you want to that is).
