So Jeff and I have been wanting this super duper Dyson vacuum for months. You know the one that's bright yellow and supposedly never loses suction? Well, it's $400 so we never bought it.

Yesterday we bought one in Target after staring at it for 30 minutes. Some lady came over and started gushing about how she bought it and its the best purchase she ever made. I think she was an undercover Dyson sales rep. So we got it. The cashier practically shit her pants when she rang it up.

I've got 3 cats and we also have a large dog in the house, so there is animal hair everywhere and the house is going on the market soon so it has to be super clean.

The day before I had vacuumed the carpet already but I wanted to try the dyson anyway.

I love vacuuming now. That vacuum pulled out so much disgusting shit out of my carpet it wasn't even funny. After I had already vacuumed the day before. The canister was full of cat hair and thick dust. I have NEVER had a vacuum before that would get cat hair off the carpet and couches before. It is so satisfying to me to empty that stupid canister.

Keep in mind that I am the biggest slob ever and not in any way the housewife type. I can't believe I'm posting about a fucking vacuum but this is the best ever.

I even want to go home on my lunch break and vacuum more.

Thanks, Missy! I'm glad that finally someone I "know" (even though we've never met, I take opinions of the people around here much more seriously than, say, a CD review on Amazon, etc.) has this thing.

The commercial first caught my eye for how overtly femme Mr. Dyson was, so it would make me chuckle. But, when it comes down to it, I wanted a good vaccuum & was intrigued by his claims.

But my mom (the only other person I could possible imagine discussing it with) said she heard bad reports about it. I wasn't convinced, but who else was I going to ask? Vaccuuming isn't exactly a topic that usually comes up in conversation, but there's few things more annoying than a crappy vaccuum when you need a good one.

Now I can't wait to get one myself.

Dyson Vacuum <3 <3 <3

This thread sucks.

Focus: Liz and I have been considering getting a vacumn for a while. I have actually stolen my mother's Oreck 8-pound vac (the one you hear about on commercials) to use on occassion.

Didn't you admit to me a long time ago that you despise house cleaning?

It's weird with me - I don't mind cleaning the bathrooms, but I hate dusting.

I hate cleaning a bathroom. I do nto mind vacumming and dusting.

I also do not like upright vacuums. I like a canister vac. I have a nice one that I bought from Costo. It was rated high in consumer reports, so i bought it.

I hate cleaning. Despise it. But the house is going on the market again and it has to look decent, so I doing a little better with it.

We actually did a whole trading spaces/clean sweep style dealie with my sister's help this weekend and I think it turned out quite well.

Anyway this vacuum is the shit. and yes it is that commercial with the really effeminate guy.

The 20% off coupons now have fine print that exclude the Dyson. A year ago you could do it, but not anymore.

The ones on ebay are refurbished. No thanks. Plus you gotta pay shipping of like $40, and the warranty is not always valid.

Our vacuum is broken now so we didn't want to wait to try and get it as a wedding gift.

I came home from work and cleaned the living room just so I could vacuum some more

oh... and I found this:

I had a Eureka and a big hairy dog. That thing didn't do shit.. I've had the 8 lb oreck for like two years and man does it suck. No dog hair anywhere, they give (included in the price) a hanheld that works really well too, but the bags are too small.
I like it so much I bought the commercial model for the office. No pretty lights, but it was 199 no extras.

Now I need an air filter any suggestions?

My Dad got one of these a few months ago and it was just the most amazing piece of machinery I have ever seen. It sucked up so much dog hair our of our 70's shag carpet it was ridiculous. Besides all of the good that Missy had to say about it, I was just amazed about the stair attachment hose and just how you could take that thing up a flight of steps and leave the Dyson sitting down below. Great product and well worth the money.

Nah,I take the canister and put it in the garbage can (with a bag in it of course) and all the dirt drops down nice and neat. We have animals that shed a lot so its primarily dog hair that gets vacumned up.

It's well worth the money and it makes the air cleaner, I have asthma and it helps greatly!!! Everything comes apart so you can clean it out, we you a Swiffer on the canister and it cleans out nicely... The best money we have ever spent, we have had ours for about a year now, not one problem... I even talked my family into getting one as well... Everyone that has posted is right you would not believe what comes out of your carpets, and you will just love to vacuum…

my mom has the dyson 'animal' upright and i hate it
it is hugely unwieldy
the long gray suction tube is wierd and not flexible enough
it is always in the way
and it sucks up the corners of area rugs
you have to have someone hold down rug corners while you vacuum
the attachments fall off

the small beater brush for couches etc is great

but overall I hate using the thing

that's why I'll vacuum before I dust. vacuum the shelves, top of your dressers, sink countertop and toilet rim(fallen hair) before you wipe them down. the pain with dusting is removing everything off the top of the dresser or sinktop and putting it back afterwards

it's a tough world

Sorry for taking so long to reply, I've been a little busy....

I had this concern as well, it's an easy fix.... Just stand around naked with the end ready to go, you'll need to trick yourself into thinking you are cleaning; so just clean the baseboards and mouldings around the doors until a flacid state is achieved. When you trick your mind into forgetting about the impending pleasure, quickly insert the flacid hog into the sucking vacuum end. The powerful suction caused by the vacuum will stretch out the unit and ensure a proper seal as you grow to a tight fit.

It works every time because the Dyson filter never clogs, thus you never lose suction.

I got mine today. I vacuumed my bedroom with my other vacuum as good as I could and then I used the Dyson.

It pulled up tons of this fine powdery tan stuff and lint from the carpet. I really had some doubts that it would work as well as it did, and I am kind of stunned now. I emptied it into a bag and couldnt really get all the powder out of the canister, but it does prove to me what it is capable of.

The original Dyson that sparked this thread shit the bed. Something was wrong with the beater brush at the bottom. The hose part still works fine. This started after Jeff used it after refinishing his brothers floors and sucking up tons of fine sawdust, which it says not to do.

So I used some rewards points and got the DYSON DC17 PET ABSOLUTE!

ROOT 3 CYCLONE NOW BITCHES! (this one has 11 cyclone thingees)

http://reviewboard.com/uploadedImages/Reviews/Household/Vacuum/DC17_IRTTPMP_02A4_W(1).jpg

It is even better than the original yellow Dyson I got (which I may get repaired and then sell or something). Plus this one comes with a "turbo brush" attachment for stairs/upholstery, which I really need because of cat/dog hair. It also comes with the "low profile" attachment for vacuuming under the bed and stuff.

Sadder is I'm enjoying the idea of you using it. That's a bitchin' unit.

I have one of these vacuums and was at a family function where I'm usually bereft of stories that don't invovle some off the wall topic - so I'm usually miserable. Having gotten married and settled down, I now have a few topics I can safely delve into - who knew people talk about their vacuums after dinner.

So my sister in law's uncle from India is there and he fancies himself a ganster a little I imagine - a short roly poly shyster whose a little showy with his cash. I bring up my Dyson and this fuck starts in on his Rainbow or whatever... water filter vacuum ... no dust AT ALL.
