View Full Version : Mark Levin

Mark Levin of one of those right wing Limbaugh wannabees doing evenings here on WABC.(NY) The new voice on R&F that says WJFK as they go to break sounds exactly like him. Could this portend some programming change at JFK?
I called Levin's show and asked, but was only told the network is expanding all the time.
Am I reading too deeply into this? Please God I hope so, because the guy makes O'Reilly seem like a sack of fun

Dont like him. Lousy radio voice. Bitter partisan. Too much left-hating with no redeeming charm.
Grant, as abrasive as he could be, could be incredibly funny sometimes.

I like Michael Savage. I dont agree with his politics at all. Borders, language, culture? Couldn't care less. When he starts his immigrant bashing, I get furious.
But I still like his show. He sounds like someone who is just on the edge of a nervous breakdown, and you tune in to see if tonites the night his head explodes. In the meantime, it's a hell of a ride.
He also starts talking, and his mind wanders God knows where. Again, fun ride to see where it ends up.

I listen to Mark every night from 6 to 8 on 77 WABC here in the NYC area. He is the funniest political radio host I've ever heard, and as well educated in law, politics and conservative issues as any other host out there.
He has a great sense of humor about Liberalism, himself and his own show.
I love when Hannity stays on after his show to do things with Mark on his. Great stuff.
You don't like it? Don't listen. I'm not trying to find Franken on the dial so I can bitch about him.

He doesn't even hold a candle to Mark though.

I dont like Franken either. Equally pissy and unfair, just from the other side politically. And for a comic, supposedly a smart one, not very funny. Eliane Boosler/Rosie O'Donnell funny. Which is to say, not funny.
For politics, I like Brian Lerher (10-12 93.9 WNYC) and Leonard Lopate (12-2 same channel) Both present all the facts they can find, and let you make up your own mind regardless of party affiliation. In other words, ACTUAL JOURNALISTS. Not just opinion with only enough facts to support the opinion presented. I like to be well informed, not just partially informed. Which is to say I get into arguements with the extremes on both sides.
Moe, if you're interested Savage is on WOR 710 AM 6-9:00

Oh, God, yes. The man is a funny TV WRITER, not a funny HOST or COMEDIAN or even AUTHOR...yet he's completely oblivious to it.
And as for all the other people listed in this thread, they're not actually politcians, so they have zero impact on the shit they wail about...and they suck as entertainers, so they fail as radio hosts.
WHY DO PUNDITS GET WORK?!?

As much as I hate to admit it the legion of fans for these radio "gurus" is huge and has an impact on politics. Politicians go to the likes of Limbaugh and Hannity to kiss their ring and seek their blessing.
As an example. Newt Gingrich makes Richard Nixon look like a saint, but because of Limbaugh's approval of "Mr Newt" he (gingrich) is a powerplayer in DC deciding on what laws should be passed or passed over.
These guys have an activist audience and they respond like robots receiving messages from the high command.

I don't buy it. I don't think it's possible NOT to color the events in the news one way or another sometimes. Some might do it more or less but it happens with all shows.

Moe, you cant tell the difference between the news stories and the editorial page? Rush, Levin are the editorial page. Nothing wrong with it, but if its your main source for news, you're not getting well informed. Plus, its commercial radio. Its thier job to entertain and hold an audience. You may learn some stuff, and I listen to Rush on occasion, but there's alot you just dont get from those guys.

This was a speculation thread based on a voice heard on the show. Ron said changes were coming I wondered if Mark Levin was one of them. Off topic is fine, but I wasn't commenting on Levin as a personality etc..just wondered if he was part of the changes. Also last night I heard the give us 60 days that's all we ask. Isn't that a Hannity bit..3 hours a day that's all we ask. Is JFK gonna go right wing?

as much as i enjoy and listen to NPR, especially the four hours a day of lerher & lopate, their politics are clearly left of center ...
the difference between them and limbaugh, hannity, levin or savage is that they are not as extreme and bombastic in how they express those opinions ...
the NPR approach is a bit more subdued ... air america is the flipside to the right's talking heads ...
people like limbaugh and savage are more entertainers than political pundits, they use conservative politcs as a medium to express their talents ...

Ahh, thank you badorties. I didn't even know that 93.3 was the local NPR station.
If you don't think that a radio station that is run off of Federal funding won't lean more towards the Libs who are famous for funding big entitlement programs and other big government, you're insane.

93.9 Moe. Also AM820
Moe, any time you do any editing of any kind, you "color" the story. But if you didn't, you'd just be reading the AP Wire all day. I tend to fall to the right on most issues, but I still find both of those shows go out of their way to present both sides. Unlike right or left wing talk radio.
Also, WNYC gets most of their money from fund raising. From financial support from "Viewers Like You"
Moe, check it out. What do you have to lose?
If nothing else, you realize that there's usually legit points on both sides.

Listen, I don't want to sound like I'm coming down on the side of people who get their info from one entertaining radio host or one tv station. I am all for open discussion on all sides of a topic, alternate sources of news and definitly for presenting the facts and letting the viewer decide. We're all AMERICANS here. If I had my way, I'd watch something along the lines of a Headline News for STRAIGHT REPORTING and then get commentary and opinion from other sources for nothing more than fun. I wish Headline News' spectrum was more broad.
I listen to Rush, Hannity, Levin and the like not to let them fill my head with ideas or to let them form my opinions for me, but rather to get new angles I might not have thought of from the political side I agree with more. Also, they're just plain entertaining while discussing the topics of the day. So at the end of a broadcast, you're a little smarter for at least having been immersed in current events, AND they're fun to listen to.
