There's such a thing as "Raising public awareness". I've heard polls say as much as 17% of HIGH SCHOOL students have taken steriods. Even if thats high, its well known that its rampant among student atheletes, particularily in College. If these hearings educate the public about the dangers, and the telltale signs that somebody's using them, its worthwhile.

Plus, I'm glad McGwire is finaly paying SOME price for what he did. Up to now, he was a heroic record breaking athelete (who kids looked up to) who cheated his ass off and got away with it.

Yes, I read it. The fines was the big thing. It meant Selig could have given Barry Bonds a quiet $10, 000 fine but given Joe Schmo a 10 day suspension and ened his career.

EDIT: And Fehr had said that he had not mentioned the fine clause to the players he represents.

Right. And my post had stated that it was a joke that the contract had read the commisoner could give players a fine instead of a suspension and that Fehr had never told the players that.
