Minicamps stave off boredom in winter break
In midwinter, hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren across the state take a break from school for a week or so.
Some hang around the house; others take family trips. But hundreds of youngsters across the area join minicamps, which offer supervised activities including academic courses, field trips and lots of arts and crafts.
"We try to make it fun at the same time. It's camp, not school," said Linda Brandon, director of instructional technology for Lakeland Schools, which offers a computer camp for Lakeland students during break.
