OK...I know it was yesterday and I know it wasn't the exact date, but it was the day after the Super Bowl when WNEW actually shut down Talk for good.

I still remember getting calls that morning to get up and put on our station as they are playing music!!! In reality 'Blink' didn't start till April
(and ended not too shortly after) but i still recall how odd it felt to hear music and realize the ramifications of what was happening. It really sucked.

To make matters worse, it was after the Bucs won the Super bowl!!!

Oh well. we all move on and it is past, but I just was curious if anyone else recalled the same and how they feel now, 2 years later (it is 2 right?)

Where do you think WNEW and the guys would be right now if talk wasn't changed. It is fun to speculate about what might have and could have been... a great lineup on a once great station

I was thinking about this last night. It borught back memories for me.

I think the actual date was January 27th, (taking that from memory so I'm not sure.)

1/27/03 was the format change day.

WNEW didn't become Blink until April 2003, I believe. They had looped Top 40 music for a few months.

I think NY is especially hard to have an all talk station in, especially one not anchored in the morning by Stern.

Just to re-hash to NY - DC debate. I think there are more people in the DC area who commute to work in a car than NYC where people use the rail system. I also think there are more people down there who are willing to talk about thinkgs like politcs and current events.

I think NY is more about the entertainment. Hence the difference in the ron and fez show from NY to DC. I also think entertainment to a lot of people is music, and not listening to people talk.

You would need a really great PD and marketing to find your niche audience. I think WNEW was getting there, but once O&A were gone, the station was sunk.

Its a damn shame and I do not think any show was as good as R&F as their peak in NYC. those were some damn entertaining shows and the crew of people that had working for them and friends of the show were unbelievable. from the girls and drinking on fridays to Billy, Hawk, Rory and wonderboy, even the promotions people seemed to all click. It may be few and far between we see something like that. It was great while it lasted.

i remember my daughters were just starting to get into the show and wanted to call in... i would hand them the cellphone and they would get them jitters about 'not being funny or interesting' and wouldn't do it

I keep hearing Al Douche on Krock and that brings back nice memories about Ron and Fez . it is so frustrating that other than the Stern show there is nothing decent to listen to here in NY . I hope they go to Sirius with Howard so I can listen to them again . is Staples still anoying ?? Ronnie still funny ??? Fez still smart and adorable ....and fabulous?? I guess so , this board is so huge , they have to do a great job to have so many fans . miss you funny men .

Stern blows and all other FM talk is gay.

That is why I've been listening to hours of political talk on 770 AM now for years.

Ron & Fez's New York fans can never forget January 27,2003, truly a day in radio infamy as we woke up at 6am to the new "BLINK" format! How badly we all wanted to hear Fezzie gloat about the buccanneer's superbowl victory!LOL! To the New York audience, it felt like we all got our hearts ripped from our chests all at once! It seems as lots of radio stations just don't care about the audience that supports them! They obviously don't do any type of research!, and keeping attempting to supply what nobody's demanding!LOL! If you're not really into "blazing hip hop and r&b, gospel, sports, religious, or political talk, then in New York, there's really not much reason to have a radio now is there? Even Buffalo has hot talk station WBUF 92.9FM?, what gives? Thusfar, WNEW has, within the last 2 years, changed their formats about 3 times, never gotten higher than a 1.7 arbitron rating, and now are depending on RuPaul as their mainstay?LOL! Ya godda be kiddin right?LOL! WNEW, if they would have stayed with a talk format, could have tweaked it into being a powerful format! New York City doesn't need anymore music stations!, they're already saturated! Now New York City is probably the only major city without a "Hot Talk" station of any kind!, strange for the number one media market huh? Now that Howard is going, I am hoping that K-Rock will maybe play music, WNEW will come to it's senses and go back to a talk format(hopefully with Ron and Fez as the morning show!) and everyone can be happy! I just "CAN'T" give up on our buddays return to New York City! Sigh...UUUUGGHH!!
