Flash Mind Reader

So someone sent me this mind reader thing which I've seen hundreds of times before in text form. This thing is a "flash" version of it. What I want to know is. How does it work? How does this thing figure out what it is each time? The answer changes every time. This is so stupid and probably very simple, but I would like to figure how it does it. How does it do the voodoo that it does so well?

I remember this thing. Silly little math trick. The symbols change every time. Since they never stay the same, there's only certain numbers you can get with that addition-subtraction thing, and those specific numbers get assigned a different symbol each time.

I knew 9 was involved!!!

Try this:

Pick a # between 1 & 10
Multiply that # by 9
You have a 2 digit # now right? Add those two digits together... Got a number? Ok..
Now, subtract 5 from that number...Got a number?
If A is the first letter of the alphabet and B the second letter and so on, assign the letter in the alphabet to that number... Got it?
Think of a Country that starts with that letter...
Got it?
Ok, think of the Second letter of that Country...Got it?
Think of an Animal that starts with that letter...
Got it?
Think of the Color of that Animal..
