I would say we are more like the Bourbon Dynasty of France around 1788...

I've always thought of America as the modern Roman Empire, just updated and improved. The other thing which no one ever brings up is the fact that America will not be around forever, just as the Roman Empire. I've had arguments with naive, stupid people who think that America, because it's so great now, will exist in this form forever. The fact of the matter is, just like Rome, which the apex of power, culture, etc., had to come to an end, and in hundreds, perhaps a thousand years, America will be no more as well.

Yes the Romans did let the providences vote. Just not for Governor, whom was appointed by the Emperor. You usually had a local govt and a Roman contingent. Kinda like letting the Iraqis vote, as long as they vote our way.

Also is it our responsiblity to take the iniative and solve the worlds problems? Why? We really haven't solved our crap yet. Or is someone gonna tell me that the schools are top notch, the highways are great and the local govts are teeming with surplus'?

At least when the Romans conquered other countries, they collected spoils and taxes from the conquered. We are footing this bill (better yet our grandkids are) off the sweat of our labor.

Tom Robbins had an opening line in one of his novels that went something like

"Back in the last quarter of the twentieth century, when Western civilization was declining too quickly for comfort but too slowly to be very exciting, people were waitng for something to happen, ..."

I could be wrong (I have been before), but in my humble opinion having George W. Bush behind the wheel for the first eight years of the new century is that something and it means that the accelerator is firmly pressed to the floor and that things will continue to get more exciting until we actually hit the bridge abutment.

I would be suprised if in 75 years america still was the #1 super power. I think we are on the decline as we speak. nothing to do with the president now. It has to do with the emerging of other countries like China and India who used to basically be a glorified third world country. They have a billion people each country, and are starting to become technological giants. Cheaper labor coupled along with very smart scientists.... sounds kind of like america in the late 1800's through the 1950's.

I dont really know what your talking about. I'm all for helping people when we can. Problem is we cant. Unfortunately not everyone can get a V600 in this country. Plus I dont see how that's a reason to control the world.

If you read the article, man, It blantantly points out the reasons that we can not continue to help everyone.

Your opinion seems to suggest that only Americans have their shit together enough to sustain livelyhood. Not all people want to live like us. From my experience most dont want to live like us. Our well being didn't come to us as an entitlement. Our forefathers worked hard to get us were we are. I'd perfer not to screw up their efforts because a foreigner dosen't have the balls to stand up and say "this is wrong".

Dont kid yourself, open your eyes. We as a people dont give two rat assholes about the common Iraqi, or Afgani. Proof of that lies in that Polpot killed multitudes, while we did nothing. Columbia, Rawanda, Sudan, Ertritea, Ethiopa, Somolia, etc... all fare worse than Iraq (an oil rich nation) in human rights, yet we do nothing.

I might entertain that comparison for half a fucking second if Chicken Little had been slaughtering his own chickens, dealing with terrorists, funding terrorists, hiding weapons, resticting inspectors from checking the hen house, had a bad porno mustache, had 2 psycho kids, ignored 17 Barnyard resolutions........

Too bad Uncle Ted, Hillary and company didn't go over to Iraq and suggest a "Write in Saddam" campaign before the elections. You know, since things were so great.

a) You obviously haven't read a fucking newspaper in the last year. NO WMD's were found and NO Links to Al Quaeda.
b) I didn't know being a bad parent warrented a US Invasion. Tell your dad to lock his doors.
c) Please decide if the Iraqi people were worth saving from a dictator or not worth counting as casualties. Do you even know how many of them have died? Do you even care? I doubt it as long as we can save them and grant them freedom and you can continue to use any excuse to pardon our collassal mistake.

Your participation in the forum is the equivilant of the op ed pieces of the NY Post or better put so that you can understand it, worth only wiping my ass with.

Please go away and start another USELESS topic. May I suggest : "I like my coffee dark no sugar How about you?"

DMM:

Posts like "Liberalism makes for bad threads" and "Send the fag back to France" really aren't petty at all. In fact, I'm positive that they add tremendously to the tenor of this forum in general.

From the moment you've "returned" you've brought back the bullshit liberal vs conservative tenor to this forum that makes it absolutely impossible to discuss anything whatsoever.

Is that Iraqi people or total casualties in Mr. Bush's personal crusade of US military/civilians and Iraqi military/civilians??

I'm not sure what your question is regarding casualties. I know how many US casualties there have been. As far as I know, no one has kept an accurate tally of how many Iraqi deaths there have been. We can't have it both ways. We can't yearn for their freedom and not care about their deaths.

As for the Bush crusade, I don't think Bush has a crusade against the US or Iraq. I think Bush and the administration have made phenomonal mistakes, miscalculations and have been negligent at best and willfully ignorant of the facts they've been presented. That the administration REFUSES to accept culpability or acknowledge any errors in judgement simply proves to me that any corrective measures will not be taken and most likely, we'll be led down the very same road again.

America like rome will change into something else just as everything does. but I believe the flexibility in our constitution will always maintain that original idea of a democracy even if it is twisted and warped it seems to somehow spring back into that original idea. The people may change, the language will change but no one is coming to america to give up personal freedom-they're coming here to pursue it. liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. a chicken in every pot a car in evvery garage. We export the idea of America. From Nike sneakers to california blondes in america it's better. cause we sell it.

I wish I believed that Lil' Bushy was naive, ignorant, and mistake prone. I'm afraid I have crossed over to the belief that his (and his croonies) intent was obscure and told us whatever he needed to in order to keep us from stopping him.

Shame really, I liked him better when I though he was just stupid.
