Give Giambi Another Chance

As a Yankee Fan I think that Giambi should get another chance to prove himself. Yes hes got the sterroid controversy looming over him and he had a shitty season last year. Its out there, and theres nothing he can do to change the past. Why should he be given another chance? Well Darryl Strawberry and Doc Gooden had their share of troubles before coming to the Yanks but the fans welcomed both of them. Both were involved with breaking the law and drug problems but the fans gave them another chance.

Steve Howe had something like 7 drug violations, God knows he had so many chances. I have a feeling that the fans and media are going to have a field day on Giambi the 1st time he steps up to the plate. Yes Giambi Fucked up, but if hes off the juice for good and hes got close to 20 homers at the all star break, I can live with that.

In the case of Darrel, Doc and Howe all their problems were OFF the field drug related issues. Snorting lines doesn't make you gain 40 pounds of muscle while simultaiously adding 50 feet of power to your swing. Those guys were given welcomed back because regardless of what they did off the field, they didn't cheat on it. I'm open to giving Giambi another shot but not right away, he has to prove himself first.

His honesty and willingness to come forward and admit his mistakes takes balls and he did it. I'm not excusing his actions, but he's dealing with the shitty situation he put himself in as best he can, and I respect him for that much. Barry Bonds on the other hand is a scumbag who takes the fans for fools, and he'll take it to his grave that he "didn't know he was doing steroids." Bonds is another Pete Rose... He'll lie to us all for decades and then one day he'll finally spit it out in a book or something. I'm willing to give Giambi another chance, not only because I'm a Yankee fan, but because I think everyone fucks up, but not everyone has the guts to fess up to it and move on. Giambi did, but Bonds can suck my dick.

Hawk I have to respectfully disgree, but not for the grand jury testimony being leaked Giambi would still be lying to our faces this very day. He was forced into owning up to his mistakes, it didn't take balls to do what he did.

Im going to have to agree with Tool and Game here. Giambi is not sorry beacuse he did it. He is sorry that he got caught. Darryl Doc Howe and others only screwed and cheated themselves. Jason and Sheff. YES Sheff and others. Cheated the fans their fellow players and the Game. will i cheer when he hits HRs? Sure i will. But i will not be cheering him. I will be cheering beacuse my team is benafiting. it may sound dumb to say that but what else can i do? say take the runs off the board? I can't believe you guys think doing steroids is worse than coke and everything else. Giambi was at least doing this to WIN ballgames. They (strawberry, etc.) where just trying to get high. Giambi didn't run the same risk of addition or half the other bullshit that comes with drug/alcohol abuse.
Yes it was wrong of Giambi to take steroids. I don't understand how you can have simpathy for someone who makes a mistake and takes drugs to get high, but not for a person who makes a mistake using drugs to make themself a better athelete. I guess you probably have more experience with narcotics than athletics.

When bigshots in Washington want to embarass the guys that run Baseball (Selig/ Fehr) into doing something about it. At the time it was leaked, the steroid plan was a joke, and the Players Union was opposed to changing it. Selig said he wanted stronger testing put in the last CBA, but Orza said they'd strike over it.
