Doing drugs has little to nothing to do with how good of a president one is. Bush is a bad president who did coke and is an alcoholic. Clinton smoked weed and had some penish smooches from a girl who was not his wife. Bush is an awful president. Clinton was a relatively good president.

I like my presidents doing only the things that I would do:

Smoke some weed - Drinkin - Some mushrooms - Some Pills - Bangin ho's -

Coke sucks but I guess if you can get it cheap because your buddies import/manufacture it (see Methyl Ethyl Keytone producers in the US and follow the connect-a-dots) I would do lines of that crap too.

I wouldn't even care if Bush did coke if he wasn't such a hypocrite/liar about medical marijuana and other drug war issues.

Thanks for bringing up my grandfather who passed away about a week before Christmas. It was nice to be reminded of sitting on that cold fucking hill in the cemetary 3 days before Christmas buring him, or the days we spent at his bedside as he slowly died.

you can look at it two ways: 1. what does it say about marijuana? or 2. what does it say about the US?

With regard to George W's service being a SUCCESS or FAILURE will be argued for hundreds of years to come. It seems Presidents are a victim or beneficiary of circumstance.

Yes, I agree in a way, Funk. All it really comes down to is are they a good president? Doing lines of coke doesn't make you a bad person, and it probably doesn't effect him today as a president.

On the other hand... it is very hypocritical to support drug laws when you yourself were a user. I mean, yea, they probably don't do it anymore and they may even regret doing it, but both Bush and Clinton become 2-term presidents... so obviously drug use didn't effect them in the long run as they are very successful today.

But I don't think the point of releasing the story was to argue drug laws. I don't care about the personal side of him as long as he hasn't committed a crime that has hurt other people or did something that makes him a hypocrite. Although, it is very revealing and probably embarassing for him (although he wont admit it.)

As for these tapes: they're almost a non-story, really. They don't really HURT Bush, because at worst they show him admitting to smoking pot, but we already knew about that and no one really cared to begin with. It's almost disappointing; if you're going to release some "secret tapes", the least you can do is make them interesting. I mean, how great would it have been if he had been caught saying something really outrageous like "You know, I think my daughters are really fucking hot...."

Amen. People can disagree without BEING disagreeable.

Thats why I hate election years. Nothing but idiots on both sides demonizing and lying about mostly innocuous bullshit.

Thats also why I cant stand Air America and Right wing talk radio. I get most of my politics on radio from NPR, which at least practices good journalism and presents both (or more) sides of every issue. Basically, I'm more interested in POLICY than Politics.

I chalk it up to immaturity. If you really think you have all the answers, as most idealogues do, you haven't really bothered to consider the other side. And you're probably only getting your "news" from an echo chamber of your point of view. I have family and friends who range from Rush Republicans to self-professed Communists. They're all good people, in their own ways.
Funny thing is, I talk to the Rush Republicans and their convinced I'm a Liberal. And the Socialists and Commies think I'm a Conservative. Which I suppose makes me a Moderate, a label I'll wear proudly.

Maybe we should all start referring to each other as "The Right Honorable Gentleman"
