Come on folks. Staples is cool man. We love to hear his follies. We loved to hear Ron and Fez make fun of him on the show. We loved his cringe comedy set from Red Bank. But Billy is a VERY good sport, was always interesting unlike Dukes, and had a sense of humor that was unlike all other show characters.
Show him some love. He's just sat by and let us make fun of him in the Captionizer thread too don't forget!

You know what's best about this?
Dukes still has a full-time radio job in Market #1.
Oh, and he's working as a producer in PM Drive. For a guy who's got more entertainment connections than you can shake a stick at.
You want to pump up Billy, that's fine. But leave Al out of it, twat.

I must admit that staples was probably my favorite "charector" on the show. He was great, but more importantly his interaction with ron and fez was awesome. he could 3rd mic better than anyone else. he was hysterical. and from what they said on the show, which i think was serious, he was the best phone guy they had. for a topical show, those older shows with billy still hold up well

So let me get this straight... People are allowed to flame dukes, but they aren't allowed to flame Staples?
I know for a fact Dukes reads this board, and as I said - it's not a problem that Billy's cronies want to pump him up. But Dukes should be left out of it.

Who said we can't or don't bust Billy's balls?
Man, that sounds awful.
But really, we have a photo caption thread of people doing nothing but having a little fun at Billy's expense. Most of the replies to his posts are about how awful his jokes are, or references back to Red Bank.
And Dukes' persona on the show, the show this site is based around, was one of a heel. For better or for worse, that's how people are going to discuss him around here. Not everyone is a "radio insider" like you are Matty, and quite frankly, don't give a flying fuck about what Dukes did once he was off the show. They just know of the Al Dukes who was the producer of the R&F show.
What's next, we have to genuflect any time someone brings up Wonderboy?
Tenbats, if you want to start up an Al Dukes appreciation thread and take a shot at Billy, or other member of the show, hey, feel free.

Mojo. Your 100% right. We kill Billy all the time. And i usually talk to Billy online. He see's all of that and he says its all good fun. Billy has always been a good sport. So to say That Al Dukes gets trashed and Billy does not. Is so far from the truth. This is a board. Everything is all and Fun . Lighten up. And Calm down on the Krock gig btw. Its not like he is working for Howard. He is working for Booker. Everything after Howard is crap in Krock. Not that Howard is any good himself anymore.

He still is an excellent 3rd Mic - while I got a little bored with the "Lost" talk last night (since I gave up watching a month or so ago), it was good to hear him with the guys.

I did not even know he was on last night, I will have to make sure I check out that show. Were they busting him like old times, or was it like a Black Earl call in which are just PAINFUL.
To me it sounds like whe Earl calls in, ron and fez could not care less. they just let him on cause they are to nice to tell him otherwise and he lives for this shit. But in reality, he bring NOTHING to the table on air. i have no clue about off air.

Nah. It was all talk about the show "Lost," which Ron is into in a "big, big way" and Billy is up on all the latest conspiracies, etc.

Really? I've never picked that up listening the the Earl calls - I always get the feeling they really like him.
The only time recently when I picked up a weird vibe that they didn't want to talk to the person was when Lance or Chuck called in to plug a gig with Giant Brian - Ron barely said three words to the guy and got him off the phone.

Billy Staples is/was one of the greatest comic foils in radio history. Hell, he's even a good message board comic foil.

I think they give Earl the fake niceness. I think they try to get him on the air cause he lives for it and they try and make him happy, but I do not think they are that into him. especially cause he never has much for the show.
Sometimes Ron does get like that with guests, where he is real quiet. I always assumed it was because he was typing or reading IM's. You can hear it sometimes when Fez is talking and then Ron comes back into the conversation, and is like "so fez, do you agree with that" or another general statement that woudl work no matter what the topic.

The point is that there has never been any decree on this board that Al should be spared from criticism. Al has had his share over the years, as well as nearly every staff member. Billy's been in the hot seat regularly. Mikey caught it bad last year. El Jefe caught a lot when he took over for the NY crew. Giant Brian's getting it now. I just don't understand why Al should be immune from it all now just because you say so.

Hooray for Billy! The guy would kill for Ron and Fez.
Al Dukes was and will aways be a douchebag. He made life miserable for R&F and his should have been fired within a month of his hiring.
Why would anybody want to defend Dukes? Are you sucking up for a job at K-Rock?
Billy is a great guy, end of story.

a gang of Tanguaray, and some Bubonic Chronic that made me choke.
Shit I had to back up off it and sit my cup down.

Billy and i have been friends for a long time.. even though we've had our ups and down. There isn't a nicer guy that you will meet in the whole fucking world. He's a great friend and if he can help you out in anyway.. he's always there.
I don't say this enough... Thank You Billy.
If we are going to appreciate someone who is no longer a "character" let's appreciate him for who he is.
As far as Al is concerned I feel the same way. I saw him last night.. he had a big smile on his face the whole time. He is doing great and I'm so happy for him.
I understand that what fans relate to is what the hear or have heard on the radio. I think maybe once in awhile we forget that we are all people. We have feeling and emotions. Maybe we are trying to get through something.. maybe we want to move past what's happened.
As people, they are both great guys. Period, case closed.
