Check the DSM-IV TR edition if you want to learn more about it. Sometimes it list studies and stuff.

dealing with someone who is bi polar is not pretty - especially when they have their mood swings...

luckily with certain people they would tell you when they had a dip in their moods- so i would leave them be or just sit by them

with my dad however he wakes up on the wrong side of the bed and is just miserable and i ignor him or if he starts mouthing off or something i tell him to go fuck himself and to either go to sleep or go to his office and close the door (yes i know its not the most polite way but it works and then all is right with the world after he becomes my dad again)
