Ever hear of eBay? (http://www.ebay.com/)

I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about.

Non digital? I didn't even know they bothered to make digital 4 tracks.

Are you talking about that little thing you can tape onto cassette tapes on? My band Unhallowed uses that in our garage sometimes just to get the basic sound of a song, or to let our vocalist try out patterns to the music without the band.

Yea, I'd say Ebay all the way. Or take a trip to a local music store and pick someone's brain.

Hi Veronica, there are going to be musicians in your area who will be able to steer you to a music or pawn shop to get one cheap. You will probably be able to get one for 100 bucks or so,since most use computers these days(I don't).What are you using it for,and how do you figure you need 4 tracks/old school style? Just curious. Is it for band stuff or are you doing some exotic style recording??? The cool thing is they are small and portable.Jerry

Digital is better anyway...go for it!!!

Actually, what you should do is go to a few stores, get some real research on real machines, get a few pirces of ones you want, then take that info on the web to places such as eBay and get better deals.

Tascam PortaStudios are very nice. I have a Portastudio Mark II and it was better then the Fostex models.

I'd recommend the Portastudio as well. It's cheap new and has a good rating. Although, I personally would never invest my money into an analog 4-track.

Korg CR4 is very good at what it does, which is non-digital cassette. And cheap.

Then go to the Boss BR series of recorders, digital, but easier then the CR4 to use; and you avoid all the crap with tape; which is better for some things, but worst for most.

I just bought a digital Portastudio and have an analog Tascam Portastudio #424 in perfect working order. This particular recorder has many interesting stories attached to it as well. It's been used for recordings released by Kill Rock Stars, Atlantic Records, Shimmy Disc, Ralph Records, Vesuvius (Scotland), Ubik (Belgium), the Meldac Corporation(Japan) & a host of others. If you're willing to cover the shipping charges, I'm guessing 20 bucks, you can have it!!! Lemme know, bobogolem@aol.com.
