Every day is a waste to me

Me again....

I know, I know, nobody wants to hear it, but I figure I'd type it anyway. It's a little more theraputic than just going over it in my head over and over again.

I've been working this crap overnight job for about 15 months now, and I realize that every day that I do it is a wasted day in my life. Especially now, that I have reason to believe that they're taking away the opportunity to make overtime or make any other extra cash other than a 40 hour work week.

This is not good.

My rent, my car, my insurance, it's all just too high. plus I have Student loan debt and credit card debt that isn't even my fault to deal with, and I feel like I'm spending every day worrying about how to get by this month.

The problem is I have a college education, and a Bachelor's degree in what should be a field with gainful employment, but I'm still in this awful hole. I could take another piddly retail job for another 30-35 hours a day, but then I'm just wasting away my life for longer, and slowly killing myself in the process.

I could just tell my night job to go screw, and go from IT contract to contract, but I'd risk unemployment and lose my insurance, and I haven't been to a doctor in over two years, and I fear I may have diebetes, plus I feel like my teeth are going to fall out.

I don't know. I feel like the world in general is pulling away from me, and the forces that have been pounding on me since I was a school kid seem to be getting stronger and stronger in the world. I don't know if life is telling me that I lost, and I should just wait for my ticket to be punched, but that's kind of what it feels like lately.

maybe the great gamesmaster that pulls all our strings is telling me it's time to toss my character sheet and re-roll all my stats, that this was a failed venture and I'll do better next time. To bad I don't believe in reincarnation, or an immortal soul. not for me anyway, I'm not important enough, in fact, I'm pretty much nothing.

What kind of job is it?
The job Im doing now has some really frustrating qualities to it and I work with people who do not give a rats ass about what they are doing and what they are empowered with. I jumped ship from another company to this company in 2001. I was making $15 an hour in the other job and took this job thinking it would be $16 an hour because thats what the advertisement said, but when I was accepted, they announced that they made a mistake and the pay was really $12 an hour! I took it anyway and tuffed it out. I kept my eye open for other openings and changed positions within the company and now Im making $11 more an hour. You might want to see if they have other positions or change what you do or take a bit of a risk and try something new within the company. Nothing ventured; nothing gained, they say. Just dont quit if you are getting benefits, unless you have something lined up right away. Look on job finder sites and apply for stuff that interests you, youll feel better about being proactive.

Sounds like someone has just let all those bad thoughts creep in a little too much tonight. If I were you, I'd try to calm down a little.

Thoughts of suicide can be common for some of us. Is it the answer? I don't know. All we have is this shitty fucking life of ours, and then the oblivion. So even if you're not doing what you want everyday, you're still alive.

But it's debatable if being alive is even that great. I don't know what to tell you man. I get those days where when you think about it, everyday that you're not doing what you want is a wasted day that you'll never get back. So instead of keeping the charade going, you just want to check out.

I wish I could give you that one thing that's worth doing shit for, but since I haven't found it, I can't pass it on. It's probably different for us all anyway.

I also don't like giving advice to people who are all "woe is me". Any person's problems start with themselves. In this thread, you managed to blame your job's management, the president, etc.

For what it's worth, Furie gave you links to two well-paying government IT jobs. Goverment positions have great benefits and you're pretty much locked in.

But what happens? You think he's mocking you. Newsflash: Furie's a goverment worker, so he MAY know what he's talking about.

EDIT: Just because it says "navy" it doesn't mean you're going to Iraq and/or getting a gun. There are plenty of non-enlisted people who do work for the Navy and our government.

Yes, I'm venting, but I'm also looking for a reason to NOT give up on myself, and to not just say, well, if I do have diabetes, just let it kill me and the hell with it.

Trust me, I hate myself far more than any of you could, because I know I'm a completely useless failure, and a waste of life. Hell, probably one of the reasons I'm pro-choice is that I believe there are many, many people who would be better off today if I was aborted, and because I wasn't, I was the cause of much misery, and I'm worthless myself, so nobody benefits from my existance.

i think Fiesty had a good suggestion about seeing how there are other people with alot of problems, whether it is financial and especially with health

and i don't mean to sound like a broken record but this is some example of how people are hurt by the growing divide between the rich and the poor

sure, Tenbats and others have their points about 'sucking it up' but not everyone has that ability to 'suck it up' as well as others. we're all different people.

there is no argument that the wealthy are becoming wealthier (i posted an article recently) and there are more people going into poverty.

and what do some people have to do, work 70 hours a week. it wears them down mentally and physically.

and alot of it goes back to another broken record point of mine

"companies are looking at the bottom line" because it affects the price of the stock. 1 billion in profits that goes to 900million and the stock price goes down. companies choose methods like layoffs, no overtime, reduce benefits, or just move operations to the 3rd world country that Fiesty talks about.

in my mind it's "you still made 900million dollars in profit"

i believe the reality is our president has very little if any control over the divide between the wealthy and poor

in just recent soundbites the President was quoting as saying that "he knows high oil prices are hurting the working people and the small business owner"

but then his antedote was "start drilling in Alaska"

then I look at Mobil's profit margin and I see the Oil Shieks sitting on the Billionaire List and it just doesn't sit right with me.

instead of taking some cut in profits to bring gas prices down the direction is to take a chance at destroying parts of the earth.

this issue rang loud to me when on his campaign he openly admitted to a group of middle class workers that "if John Kerry raises taxes on the most wealthiest you know who will pay for it, you" then he went on to say to the group that "the wealthiest people have lawyers and accountants and it would be the middle class paying for it"

to me he was being honest in a slight 'ignorant' type of way and not an 'in your face' type of way but nonetheless, then why would you give the wealthiest the largest tax break if they are finding ways to not pay the tax they are supposed to.

you may not think this all relates to Jerry's situation but I think it's all related. and there are millions more out there in Jerry's situation

it's a tough thing to suggest anything about anybody's money but if you feel that giving the wealthiest people the largest tax cut does not contribute to the rich/poverty situation then I disagree

between the loopholes already in place(which the President openly admitted, and he is from wealth) and the premium interest they already earn on their money then why did they need a tax cut.

i'm trying to base my argument based on fact. news articles, the billionaire list, a companies profits, seeing first hand a cut in benefits and pay as a company begins to make good profits and the top executives continue to see increases and bonuses.

you can stand there blindly by and say it's not happening but it is happening and the divide proves it. I really have no solution other than 'not giving the wealthiest the largest tax break, companies should lower earning estimates instead of laying off and cutting people's benefits and pay "without" having to suffer a drop in their stock price. Especially when they still make healthy profits. It's the system that's in place and it caters to the wealthy.

Both jobs Furie linked require at least a Masters Degree, I only have a Bachelor's, and I have neither the time or money to go back to school.

Funkman articulated my point much better than I. I know for a fact that one of the products I deliver could pay for my rent for a month, and I deliver several every night, and I'm one of many who do the same.

I've been told by coworkers that they look at me and know I'm wasting my time there, that I'll never see any real advancement because the IT department only hires thier buddies, and we're considered the lowest head on the totem pole, so we're kind of seperated from all the "important" people.

that said, a mistake on my job could very well not only mean firing, but I could be arrested by the FBI. The fact that the company simply does not want to pay us astounds me.

I want to get back into programming, with all the outsourcing to India, I don't know if I can get anything anymore. I think I'm literally worth more dead than alive right now.

"sucking it up" would involve me jumping off a building, or in front of a bus, or simply reving up to 90 and slamming into the nearest tree.

On the Left and the Right. If you stopped feeling sorry for yourself for two seconds you may actually figure a way out of your current woes.
You should read a few biographies about some of the most successful people. Many had worse misery than you can imagine. Ray Kroc (McDonalds) was a failure at everything he did for most of his life. J.C. Penney was suicidal after his first business failed. Henry Ford found success with the Model T. A thru S were all flops. There's a million of them.

This would be incorrect. I read the qualifications. You need to either have experience OR the degree. You have the experience, so you are qualified.

Your problem is the following: You see yourself in a JOB, not a career path. So it's up to you to change it. The federal government does not care what you do with yourself. This has nothing to do with W, Rush, Hannity, anyone.

It's the very fact that you have a really, really shitty attitude and you're trying to blame everyone but yourself and you're deflecting any attempts that people have made to help you.

You wanna get hired? Here's what you do.

1) Shut the fuck up about Bush, Rush, Hannity, etc. They are the LEAST of your problems right now. If you start rambling about political bullshit, especially in a job environment before you're even hired, that paints a HUGE red flag on you.

2) Look at the positives of what you have to offer a company. You have a degree, you have experience, you have motivation. Stop with this "fat sack of crap" idiocy.

3) Get in shape, look presentable. If you FEAR you have diabetes, maybe you should put down the junk food and take a walk. Don't tell me it's so expensive to join a health club, doesn't cost that much to walk around the block.

4) Car insurance. Did you shop around rates? Geico's in town. Did you look there?

5) Credit Card debt - Did you look into consolidating your debts into one payment? A lot of companies help out here.

That's all I can think of for right now.

2) I've done all that, but to be honest with you. I really don't think I'm worth shit right now. I simply can't pull myself out of that.

3) I'm too ugly to ever be presentable. all I can do is iron what few nice clothes I have left and hope they understand. Plus I'm short. short people are just despised in general. I actually get excercise in my current job, as I have to walk around alot, usually carrying all my deliveries.

4) My car insurance isn't opressively high, it's just another brick on my shoulders

5) Consolodation, at least everything I've read, says you have to actually OWN something, like a house or something, which I don't. I'm trying to get my parents to help, since its thier charges on my accounts in the first place.

I may vomit saying this about Tenbats, but he's right on this one. After awhile, what else can you say to someone who's so against getting help? Someone who'd rather wallow in self pity than help themselves? You have to walk away.

And I know exactly how Jerry feels. I'd expect anyone, even my own family to walk away from me if I just started to bitch everyday like that. That's why I stopped talking to people about my problems. It doesn't help, it stresses out whoever you are sharing with, and for Christ sake, they have their own problems to deal with.

It is complete and utter SELFISHNESS to dump all of your problems on everyone around you. Not that you cant confide occasionally in Friends/Family, but to dump your self pity on those around you just makes them miserable too.

And that's another great point that helps snap me out of my selfish pity sessions. I may not be rich, my life may not be perfect, but there are so many other people in such a worse position it's rediculous for me to feel sorry for myself. And not just people in 3rd world countries, people right here. Christ, if I was in the position that my own parents or grandparents were in at my age, I'd probably have died.

Being depressed is ultimatly such a selfish way to be. You're worrying about yourself so much you can't see others feelings at all. Getting in that frame of mind can be SO HARD to snap yourself out of, I admit it. I don't want to dog pile on Jerry because I've felt JUST LIKE HIM more times than I care to remember. Even recently on bad days. We all think about suicide once in awhile, maybe even write out the note and plan it. But there's just a point in your life where you literally have to choose between life and death. The strong live, the weak die. I can't put it any other way.
