I celebrate a Year sober today. One year without a drink or a drug by the grace of my higher power. For a guy like me this is Big. I got to tell as many people as i can. This is good. I feel great. If you knew me you'd know what a miracle this fucking is.

I didn't know the attrition rate was so high either 8% damn. Well if I can do it anyone who wants to can it's simple(not to be confused with easy). It's painful and scary but you just let god do what you can't. and follow some simple directions.

It takes Ballz to walk back into those rooms and pick up a white chip. Do It Whiteboy! The only requirement is a desire to stay sober. There is no clean time requirement just a desire. Keep the faith.

Congratulations brother. It was the best thing that ever happened to me and I get a thrill to hear when others are making it too. You've got a lot more birthdays to go. Enjoy them all.
Here's the story of my first birthday: My friend got married in Ohio and for a pre-honeymoon honeymoon they drove east to Tahoe and had a few of the old gang drive up from the Bay Area to meet them. I drove up the night before my 1st and spent the night playing blackjack with the boys and doing pretty well - up about $400 at bedtime, which was just after midnight. I had planned to have a private celebration by puting $50 on my birthday numbers, 11 and 20, November 20, 1996, on the roulette table and walking away win or lose. The table limit was $25 so I put down my $50 and hit the 20. The couple that had been sitting at the table for hours were more surprised than I was and as I collected my $875 and walked away the girl was laying into the guy like he was some kind of loser for not being me. Now, I don't believe in luck, fate, god, UFOs, or even higher powers, but that was tested pretty strongly that night. It went away, but it really did make me feel pretty damn good about staying sober long enough to try it again the next year. Which I did, losing the money but keeping my sobriety.
Congrats.

Congrats.
I'm curious though, as to why when shit is fucked up, we don't blame God, but when we get our shit back together, we give him all the props. Seems like he/she is getting out of some serious blame here.
Anyway, congrats Donnie, I wish I had the self control, maybe God will bring me some.

I can only tell you what has worked for me(the whole G.O.D. Thing) I know people who don't believe in a traditional H.P. who have many yaers of sobriety. For me I had one of those thunderbolt experiences so it works for me. I don't have any self control either, thats when my H.P. kicks in and just keeps me out of harms way. so far so good. When I was calling the shots things were jacked up. REALLY jacked up. Now I just do my best and let my H.P. do the rest and it has worked. But that isn't the only way to start on this path.

I picked up my One year coin the other night it was pretty cool. Standing up in front of the whole room and getting a coin from my sponsor. It felt real then not just another day but an event, a happening it was cool as hell.
