View Full Version : Mac Mini's

We just got two of these new Mac Mini's in at our store. I was doing some reading at honestly I think they're a POS. They start out at 500 bucks and the next one goes up to 600. The 500 dollar one one has 128MB of DDR RAM and the other 256. Now they can be up graded but only up to 1GB. Oh and its only the computer you are buying , MAC's slogan is BYODKM or something like that , meaning bring your own Key board mouse and display. Which probably brings the tottal up to at least 1000 bucks, Ok maybe 800 if you get a CRT monitor and not a flat screen.

Now Someone tell me if what I said is true? Are they good computers or do they make E-machines look good?

'Tis but a small ploy to get more switchers.
As a mac user, I advise you to steer clear, as further infiltration by the masses means more shit for we innocent and pure.
If you have to ask, you'll never know......

i'm indiffrent to the mini-mac.
pOOpsHIp's right, it's a way to cheaply introduce people to mac.
I think aple should just concentrate on the G5 iMac.
When's the G5 powerbook coming out?
Yeah, their concept is that you would already have that stuff from the PC you had before switching to a Mac. Personally I wouldn't want to have a computer that I can't easily upgrade, like the PowerMac I have.

I have read a lot of rumors that the Mac Mini was supposed to have a built in iPod dock on it. People have found hardware inside the mini mac that would support it:

Apple's going to pay for that decision, at least from a PR persepctive, because of this:
The first computer with a built in iPod dock will not be a Mac, it will be a PC, and it will be made by HP. (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=22242)

<FIELDSET>Well, when HP's says it can dock an eyePod it really means that it has a molded piece of plastic that fits around Apple's own dock to allow it to link to the PC. It does work though.</FIELDSET>

Well, it's not quite the same thing. The HP will just have a space specifically for the rectangular dock to sit in, you'll still have to plug it into a USB port on the HP.

That's lame.

And what the hell is an eyePod? is that the Oakley MP3 player?

The HP one doesn't count. It's lame. The slot is on the motherboard, but they didn't enable support for it.
And the mac mini isn't a bad machine. But it's more for those people who want a simple machine they can use to check their email, but doesn't take up a lot of space.
