How many motorcycle shows do we need on TV? [Archive]

It seems every Goddamn time I flip around my cable stations, there's a new fucking motorcycle build off or garage show on.  
Are any of you watching them?  I know my father is.  Every night.  Every fucking night after dinner, he has American Choppers on in the living room.  I didn't mind these shows until there were like 5 of them on all the time.  Now, I can hardly stand them.  I've never even driven a street bike, and I've heard the name Indain Larry WAY too many times.
So is it just me again, or do any of you feel like there's way too many motorcycle shows on TV right now?
 
 
And real quick, I just wanted to say that I'd take a motorcycle show ANY day over these bullshit Reality shows on.  Blech.

The one show I liked, Southern Steel, isn't on anymore.  I also can't stand all these poker shows.  Every channel has a fucking poker show.

Yea, not to change topics all together, but those poker shows are FUCKING BORING as hell.  
It seems that even before a type of show like the motorcycle shows and the poker shows are proven to be a hit, other big stations make a copy of it JUST IN CASE the idea takes off.  What is TV's fucking deal???

Well you get your chance EVERY WEEKDAY NIGHT, plus marathons and different times on weekends.
That is the problem with that show.  It was great until it was on all the time.

I'll watch American Chopper, but not all the time.  I like to watch the Jesse James "motorcycle shows", but Monster Garage is getting a little tired.  Another show I just can't get into is Amarican Hot Rod, I think I just don't like the people.  It seems on all of these shows everyone is just trying to create a persona.
Poker shows, who cares, especially the celebrity ones.  Are those filmed in the waiting room for Surreal Life auditions?

Discovery channel is basically HGTV on friday and saturday nights, unless it is motorcycle time

Amen to that.  Along with History and The Food Nework those were a couple of channels I could almost always turn to in times of no programming to at least LEARN something.  Just to have intellectually simulating background noise.  But more often than not, I'd enjoy whatever was on.  Now they do suck ass.

I used to feel the same way until a friend of mine pointed out, all the learning shows have just moved to their other channels, ie Discovery Wings, Discovery Health, Discovery Kids, Discovery Times. 
I'm biased though, I love American Chooper.  It's also cool that they're located close to where I live, and I've seen Mikey out at the bars . . hammered.

I agree Moe, I used to have digital and got rid of it because i never really watch TV. but when i do, i want to watch the shows i used to. Now i have to pay more for that shit. I mostly watch the history channel now. The discovery channel just sucks, and TLC is unwatchable. we have a whole channel called HGTV, why does it need to be on 2 other stations?

You guys are right. . . The Discovery Channels line up for the next day is like 6 episode of Biker Build off, with tomorrow's lineup starting with Design Rivals. Designer Guys, the Party Planner.  
I guess if it brings the viewers and the revenue in, they'll pimp this Design/Motorcycle thing for all it's worth.

I don't want to shit talk American Choppers too much, because I think that show actually is the one good one.  Other shows try to emulate that tension in the shop, but they're all doing it wrong.  You can't manufacture that family dynamic they have. 
My problem is that there are a mess of not as entertaining copies, and they have driven American Choppers down our collective throats.  I can't watch that show now because I feel like I've seen every episode 10 times.  Even a good show can be shown too much.

I'm watching the Yankee game and I have seen at least one AC commercial and they just had a sign for it behind home plate.  While I was listening to the Met game this afternoon they must have played a commerical for it 15 times.  I refuse to watch it because it is rammed down my throat.

Well then you're set my man.  NOT watching that show too much is great.  I really like that show, that's why I wanted to make sure everyone knew I wasn't shit talking it.  And I also understand that when a network is making a lot of money off a show, they're going to cram it down out throats.  I just don't have to like it.  And back to the point of this thread, I don't have to like all the copycat shows that aren't even close to the quality American Choppers is.  The only other one I've really liked enough to watch more than once is whatever show Jesse James is on because one time I saw him build cars that they jousted and Slayer played the event.  Slayer is kewl.

Thanks, I guess.  I REALLY wish I was wrong on this one!  I want my old Discovery, TLC, Learning and so on BACK!!!  I had a very lazy day, and I've had the TV on a lot.  This is ALL said stations are playing now.  Jesus.  How about more homicide investigation shows?  Those are always great.

There was an article in the Boston Globe today about how A&E went from being the high-brow channel where you would find programs such as the critically praised English period drama "Pride & Prejudice" to just being the latest outlet for crap like "Dog the Bounty Hunter" and "Growing Up Gotti".  
There is just too much of this shit.  Hell, MTV hasn't been a music channel for almost 10 years because there's too much of this crap keeping a spare minute for a music video available.

I dig both American Chopper and Biker Buildoff,that being said if someone has a good idea, it is doomed to be repeated. There are about 4 different versions of Pimp my ride on TV now.The Biker award show is gay though and might kill the fad all on its own.

Its the same thing with every show on tv.  if one network gets good ratings with one show the other networks hop on the bandwagon.... case in point Nanny 911 and the other Nanny show, Wife Swap and Trading Spouses.... all of which happens to be on either fox or abc.... its like a fucking pissing contest between the stations

I used to watch both American Chopper and Trading Spaces religiously.  I love watching creative people perform their art.The
problem is that both shows got really popular and they pretty much
transformed their entire networks into those types of shows (plus other
networks) to the point where there was so much of it that it was
annoying.My other problem with AC is that after the first
season, the Teutels became rich and famous and it changed the whole
dynamic of the show.  Their bikes are really cool, but the
personalities builiding them changed, and they seemed to play up to the
tv more.

Basic cable is wasteland of repitition.  If a show works (trading spaces, Amercian Chopper) they will copy it as many times as they can.   Then they will package the reruns into marathons and cram then down your throat every weekend.  I never find myself saying "Hey its 9 PM gotta watch the sureal life", but I know eventually I will see them all.
