Dude, come on. I loathe the Cardinals, but it's a fucking crime if Pujols doesn't finally get his due as the MVP.

Andruw Jones deserves the MVP more then Pujols, Mojo. Pujols is great,
but there are alot of good players on the Cardinals. He isnt the only
one who hits. Andruw Jones carried the Braves by himself for awhile. 6
rookies in the lineup at times. He definately deserves the MVP
But it's not like those rookies sucked...far from it. Some of them very quickly emerged as some of the best players in the fucking league! You don't "carry" a team of rookies when the rookies are guys like Jeff fucking Francoeur. I mean, look at it this way...does Derrek Lee deserve the MVP just for carrying the Cubs? Yeah, they're only a .500 team, but you take him out of the lineup and they'd be battling the Pirates for the cellar spot with all those months they had Walker, Nomar, Wood and Prior out, and Patterson and Aramis Ramirez slumping like they are/have. THAT'S carrying a fucking team singlehandedly. Jones is a helluva player, but Pujols is astounding. Why should he be penalized for being on a good team? He'd be that phenomenal on ANY team. How many years is he going to be ignored? Give the MVP to the best player...and that player in the NL is Pujols.

Pujols is going to have a Bonds like MVP streak in the near future.
Andruw will never have a season like this for the rest of his life.
He's playing out of his mind right now.

Jones is leading all of baseball in home runs. 50 bombs! He's also leading the NL in RBI.

Batting average is a worthless stat.

East Coast bias - DO YOUR WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!

While I don't necessarily agree that the BA is a worthless stat I do think that Jones' defense should count somewhat.

Its tough, I'm partial to Jones because he's a Brave, but I do see some validity in Pujols' numbers.

Lee shouldn't even be in the conversation despite his great numbers.

Francour is the only rookie that could be considred " great " at this time.

The others are just playing roles and where following Jones' lead while Chipper was out.

The flipside of that is that the Braves still had Giles and Furcal ( even though Furcal was sucking for a while ).

It's a tough call.

Another thing, isn't it funny that almost all the steroid questionable players have sustained big injuries ove the last few years. Is this bc they break down the body over time eventually, or bc MLB forces these silent suspensions of key players. Look at Rafy, they knew at least as far back as fucking May. This guy was celebrated during the time he was fucking caught. Some examples of mysterious breakdowns in the last few years. Giambi, Bonds, Foulke, Sosa, Rafy (again) and many more. I really smell some bullshit here. MLB has been known to be very secretive with it's doings and is usually allowed to police itself unlike any other league. I truly think they allowed it/looked away in the past on purpose, and are trying to did out without sinkind those stars who have helped them during their time of need after the strike. It shocks me that testing is still so lax, with very light penalties. Half of the drugs out there aren't even screened for right now. It's not even that hard to make this better, but I believe they still don't want to know. It's rumored that Rafy wouldn't even have gone down if it wasn't leaked out before MLB made a move. They say MLB made a move bc it leaked, and for that reason alone. Great work.

i shoulda explained myself better

my comparison was the futility of both teams on the big stage.

the bills were 0-4 in super bowls

braves were 1-4 in world series since the run began

Bama

The Buffalo Bills can only be used as a comparison to a team that
never got it done. The Braves got it done. They ran into the Yankees
twice when they were flat out unstoppable and they lost a heart breaker
to Minnesota when nobody in their right mind expected the Braves to be
there.

I'll never understand why the Braves get so much
flack for not winning multiple world series. Like I said earlier only
the Yankees and Marlins won more during this run. Nobody ever said they
were the greatest team in the history of baseball. 14 straight is
impressive. It would be worthless without 1995 but that happened so
it's all good.

I can say without reservation that this current
14 year run is infinately better than the 14 years before it. Nobody
remembers it but the were HORRIBLE. All the local sports guys did was
trash them at any opportunity. They did this despite the fact that Dale
Murphy FLAT OUT RULES.

In closing they won it all and it was FUCKING SWEET.

They're essentially building an upper deck over them, expanding the stadium capacity to more than 40,000, and a restaurant in centerfield. More bathrooms (a huge plus) and remodeled pre-exisiting bathrooms (a huger hugest plus). No more standing room along the bleacher fences, and completely redesigned bleacher seats. Scoreboard stays the same, and the design plans look good enough, but hey, it's kinda sad in the grand scheme of things.

How should a .300 batting average mean more than both Hrs and RBIs ?

More guys are gonna bat .330 then are gonna hit 50+ HRs.

The fact that Jones' HRs arent that much different than the other 2 and his average is that much worse means that he's obvioulsy making more of his opportunities to drive runners in, including just himself.

With RISP Jones has 18 more RBIs than Pujols despite batting .116 less in that scenario.

With RISP Jones has 23 more RBIs than Lee despite batting .123 less in that scenario.

As fars as the " but if Dusty Baker had done ... " yeah maybe Jones would've driven in more runs, had a higher average etc ... if Giles batted .400 but he didnt so it is what it is.

In fact in the " if " category you could say that Jones would've benefited IF Chipper didnt get hurt and miss so many games.

The funny thing is that Lee still hit more HRs on the road even though he played in that little league ballpark at home.

The fact is the argument should be between Jones and Pujols because Lee's team is 19.5 games out of first place and that's what should make an MVP.

Not just the numbers but the numbers AND a competetive team.

It's a PLAYER award, not a fucking TEAM award. Hence why focusing on the RBI's is horseshit as the second best stat. How can Lee control who gets on base in front of him. Jones' stat there is inflated by being on a better team...that should detract from his individual performace, not enhance it. Lee managed to be the best batter in the NL DESPITE being on a woefully craptacular team. And being on a crappy team just highlights what he's done even more. You subtract Lee alone, the Cubs are literally fighting to be in last place. You subtract Jones, even this year, the Braves are battling for the WC at worst.

And besides, I'm not even saying Lee should get it...I think Pujols is due. Overall I think Lee should be the second choice WELL before Jones. Jones is coasting on HR's alone. Look around the league and you'll see guys hitting between .250-.270 and getting around 30 HR's or more...these are single tool limited players. Whoopedee-shit.

I hope to Christ they don't get Furcal. It's been a long talked about rumor, and he's on "the list" of the 6 players they're supposedly targeting, but he's the one I want the least. He's too streaky to be the leadoff hitter they need. As for Nomar, if they sign him back (and they should because he really wants to stay and will be cheap), it's been discussed him playing LF or (more likely) 2B. SS would be too much of a potential strain on him after that groin injury.

Bull.

Shit.

Subtract Jones' numbers. The Braves are still right in it for the wild card, at the very WORST.

Subtract Lee's numbers. Singlehandedly, the Cubs are duking it out with the Pirates for last place. THAT'S carrying a team. The Braves are still a very, VERY good team without Jones, even with all the rookies. Without Lee alone, the Cubs are quite possibly in dead last. THAT'S carrying a team...and it's still a bullshit reason to give the award.

Besides, like I've said, Pujols has earned it year after year and deserves it yet again, and I fucking loathe him and his goddamn team. That Jones is even in the running is a joke.

OK, you can't just make things up. If the rest of the team sucked and then somehow made it to 1st based on his bat alone, then yes, THAT'S carrying the team. But they fucking didn't, and to say so is insane. Quit talking about the rookies like they were horrible, because they turned out to be the exact fucking opposite. Jones is only being considered because of the MLB's boners over home runs above all else. Why keep such complicated and specific stats to emphasize how good or bad a player is in ALL aspects of the game when they're just going to dumb it down to ONE aspect again and again each year?

And quit saying "Lee sucks" like you can somehow argue that.

Bama, you gonna let everyone rip your team like this?

There's a HUGE difference between 1st basemen out of necessity and a GOOD 1st baseman. Lee and Pujols are clearly the latter, arguably the best in the NL. Jones is not the best CF in the NL, period.

Why bother keeping stats is HR's are all that counts?

Har-har.

I never said Lee deserved the spot solely for keeping the Cubs from doing even worse. I only brought that up when people constantly toss out the "carried the team" argument for Jones when he was on an excellent team and it's more difficult to gauge such a thing. You subtract Lee's runs from a bunch of Cubs' games this year, they lose, far more than if you did the same with Jones and the Braves. The Braves aren't in the playoffs because of Jones alone...they're there because they're a good TEAM. The Cubs are in 4th as opposed to last place definitively because of Lee. The guy literally did all he could to make his team win all season long, usually by himself. Jones, despite people refusing to see it, was surrounding by a very good to great team at all times. The Braves don't suddenly suck without him.

Besides, it's a horseshit argument. My point is, and always has been, the stats. The numbers don't lie. Lee beats Jones in EVERYTHING except home runs and RBI's.

Why should the TEAM dictate who wins the PLAYER award?

Andre Dawson says "fuck off" to alla yez.

Too drunk to dream... << Champagne for my real friends, and real pain for my sham friends. >> "You can tell some lies about the good times we've had, but I've kissed your mother twice...and now I'm working on your dad..."

but how can you say stats for a shitty team are as valuable as helping
your team win. You can put up stats all fuckin year and the team never
wins, that means you arent really valuable, you are just there. Andruw
had more value to the braves this year then derrick lee did to the
cubs. Pujols should be argued cause his team won, but they were too
good, he gets screwed by that.

*Tears hair out*

OK, let's walk through this slowly...Derrek Lee did all that he possibly could do to help his team win, as him being the best hitter in BOTH leagues should help demonstrate. The Cubs won at least a dozen more games due to his performance ALONE. Why should he be penalized because his team is riddled by injuries and shit management? He, the PLAYER (y'know, that third part in MOST VALUABLE), did all that he could do, as a PLAYER, to get his team to win. Just because the rest of the plaers can't pull something off, why should that detract from Lee's performance? One man can't singlehandedly drive a team to the playoffs. Jones did no such thing, despite the absurd claims to the contrary. Why do people insist like the Braves sucked and Jones had to drag them all alone to the playoffs? THEY WEREN'T EVER EVEN CLOSE TO BEING BAD, EVEN WITH THE ROOKIES AND THE INJURIES.

Look at it this way...put Jones on the Cubs instead of Lee. Are you honestly saying Jones somehow gets them to the playoffs? Over Lee OR Pujols? Bullshit.

Look, bottom line, the player with the best singular performance should get the award, regardless of what his team around him did. A player is only one man. Lee has made it explictly clear you CAN be possibly the best player in the league and a shitty team is still going to be a shitty team. There's 9 players on the field and on the roster for a reason...it's a TEAM effort. What do you want Lee to do, magically clone himself? And what the fuck about Pujols? Talk about a bullshit double standard...Lee can't win because his team is too bad...Pujols can't win because his team is too good?

That's asinine, you dopey mutt.
