View Full Version : WXRK K-Rock in NY changes format

I'm surprised nobody noticed this, I guess I'm the only one left here from the NY area who can't afford sattelite radio....

anyway

K-Rock, in a ridiculous move, changed thier format to a "rock hits of

the past 30+ years or so. So they're playing stuff like Def Leppard,

Van Halen and the Who next to Greenday and Audioslave. If anyone knows

Jersey stations, it's pretty much the EXACT SAME FORMAT as WRAT and

WDHA.

Meanwhile, stuff like My Chemical Romance,

Killers, Bravery, Louis XIV, Interpol, etc. (READ: "the only stuff I've

bothered listening to Krock for in the past few months") will be

on "K-Rock 2" which is an internet streaming site (READ: "You can't get

it in your car, you know, where you LISTEN TO RADIO")

Here's thier crappy new site with the link to the online station

wtf is wrong with this site? I refuse to use IE, so just type "krockradio.com" into your browser, fuck links...

When did the change happen? And I only listened to Krock the
other day because I had to use my alarm for the first time in 5 months.
I thought it was a late "april fools" gag, until I heard a DJ at G-Rock
(that's not a joke) hint that it was permanent (or as permanent as
radio gets) and they were going to capitalize on being the only "new"
rock station in the area. I don't think you get G-Rock north of Union
County, though. This happened yesterday, as far as I can tell. I don't
listen to much radio on the weekends.

A depressing, negative thread from Jerry? I was hoping that RF.net users could get format changes too.

Jerry, I'll wait for your response to this question...

With what's happening on January 1, 2006, WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT THEM TO DO? Stop complaining. This is better than what you normally get with a format change, and you should be so lucky that you get the K-Rock2 stream.

Think of it this way - If Joel Hollander was still in control when WNEW imploded, we'd probably be able to hear R&F online....

This change should be considered lucky. The main modern rock station in
CT went from current rock to hip hop last year. One day, we were
getting the 90s at Noon, the next day, Wendy Williams. Woo fucking hoo.

I'm just asking this out of curiosity, though is it possible that Infinity may want a stake in satellite radio and could ultimately port a station like K-Rock2 over to be broadcast on satellite?

For me personally I liked when K-Rock had classic rock, I think that with a combination of alternative music on it as well it will be a good thing ultimately. Though I would have hoped they would convert WNEW into an alternative music station.

Relatively interesting article in yesterday's NY Times about broadcast radio's attempts to combat the rapid growth in satellite radio.

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/04/05/national/05satellite.html

My favorite snippets:

"At the end of the day, people want to hear what's going on in their local market," said Joel Hollander, chairman and chief executive of Infinity Broadcasting, owned by Viacom and the country's second-largest broadcaster behind Clear Channel. "People are emotionally involved with local radio."

Yeah, and I'm sure you'll be sensitive to that involvement which may be demonstrated by, say, renting a plane to pull a banner supporting their local radio heroes, right?

For instance, XM Comedy, a channel that features the often raunchy stylings of Chris Rock and others, is among the company's 10 most-listened-to.
Oh good, another "RADIO INSIDER" attack from Tenbats. Jerry's thread didn't seem "depressing" to me, but his last one really was, so I can't say he doesn't deserve a little ribbing for it. But not from you. THAT'S GAY.

Anyway, KROCK has sucked balls for a long time. They get you to keep listening with the promise of some good stuff, mostly old music like AIC or Nirvana, and then they bombard you with crap. Wee wee wee wee, boring. Oh, and a KROCK 2 stream is one of the stupidest things I've heard of. I'm sure that's getting a lot of traffic.

The moral of this story? I don't give a shit if they play 24 hours of Booker queefing into the mic.
www.unhallowed.com One Big SeXXXy Blog
