Insomniac or Night Owl?

How do you know if you are one or the other? Is there a difference?
I've worked 2nd shift-type hours all my life because I stay up late (3-4 in the morning) and get up late (11-12). I've always thought that was my natural clock but now I'm starting to think maybe I'm really an insomniac! For the life of me I can't fall asleep before 3 am, even if I'm exhausted.

Anyone else have this schedule? Are you happy with it or do you always kind of feel fucked up?

As long as you're getting sleep during the day, you're just a night person. I'm the same way. I go to bed when my son leaves for school, and I wake up when he gets home.

I think I'm questioning it because other people like to give me shit about it, always wanting me to get up earlier like I'm LAZY or something! Why does sleeping 'till noon=lazy in this society?

Because its &quot;not the norm&quot; and people see it as something that people only do because they cant bring themselves to wake up early.&nbsp; Im just saying thats what Id think it means to most people who are 9-5 type people who are in bed by midnight..

<p>well, if you do it consistently and get that 8 hours of sleep than you are a night owl. If you were to, like me, have to sleep like 12 hours if you don't get to sleep earlier in the night, then you are i guess more of an insomniac. </p><p>For example, i can't go to sleep at 4 on&nbsp;a night before i have classes because then I won't be able to wake up in time to go to school no matter how many alarms or shit I set. That's why I stay up into the early hours of the morning instead of going to sleep at all. Its like half an insomniac thing and half another sleeping disorder I guess you'd call it.</p><p>As long as you can get 8 hours of sleep between 3 and 11 you're not dysfuctional or anything. I'd say you've just been able to get used to it, and I envy you.</p>
