View Full Version : MP3 players
I never really wanted one until about now. I started to go back to the gym and well quite frankly the Lite music isnt quite motivating. Theres only a certain amount of times I can hear the song "Drops of Jupiter" within an hour. Ive been doing some research on them and Im better off buying one on ebay than at work where I maybe get a 15 dollar discount on them. My only concern is sound quality. Are they compairable to portable CD players where you have a good sound? I just want to hear my music lound and I want it to sound good, like bass wise are they any good?

<p>Instead of an MP3 player, you should really consider an <span class="mainnavlink"><a title="iPod" href="http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/viewmessages.cfm/Forum/52/Topic/41631/page/What_s_better_mp3_player_or_iPod.htm" target="_self">iPod!</a></span> </p><p>But seriously, if you get a good pair of earphones and the files are encoded correctly (higher bit rates and sample rates) than they will sound great when compared to any portable CD player, they won't stand up to Serious Audiophile equipment in a professional music room or anything, but they are meant to be portable, so that shouldn't be an issue.</p><p><a href="http://www.xmradio.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://members.cox.net/nicksporsche/wwjbd.jpg" border="0" /></a></p><p> "<strong>We're putting the band back together.</strong>"</p>

Has anyone bought/tried the PoGo! Products "Radio Your Way" Portable MP3 Player and Radio Recorder? I just ordered one so I could record Ron&Fez but haven't gotten it yet.

Depending on how much you plan to spend on the MP3 player they always benefit from better headphones. The Sennheiser PX100 or 200's are a good start.

If you're a cheap fucker like I am: I bought a $50 Lyra player before I left on this trip. It doesn't hold much on internal memory - like 25mb - but it uses standard SanDisc memory cards, of which I was able to get the 1gb card before I left. It's the same card that my digital camera uses, so I have alot of flexibility to use my 500mb card for music as well as store another 300mb of music on my 1gb card and save the other 700mb - just enough to burn to CD - for photos. Getting interoperable stuff was one of the best decisions I made. The drawbacks are that the Lyra can only make 1 playlist, and you can't see much of the song info at once on the display, so navigating around the songs is a bitch. But for a cheap-ass bitch like me, it's fine. For $5, I even got some computer speakers here in Yemen so I can use it as a home entertainment system. Ferdinand Magellan can kiss my sweet ass!

I would recommend an iPod in a second, they now have models spanning the $99 - $450 range.
I have a 40GB regular iPod and I use it all the time (I'm using it right now as I type this)

<p>I have a cheap little Samsung MP3 player (only 128mb) and it suits me fine. I load it up and hit the gym.</p><p>I really dont see the point in getting a big ol' 40 gig iPod until that little window can show high quality full motion video. MP3s are MP3s. It really doesnt matter how I listen to them but, being able to watch a few of my movies on a plane...now THAT is worth something to me.</p>

I don't just listen to just music with the 40GB, I have a lot of the R&F and O&A shows on this thing and I travel a lot, it's also useful as a portable harddrive.
I also travel with a laptop to watch movies with, but the iPod is used all the time, including at work.
I do have tons of my CDs on the iPod and it's nice to have them all there in my pocket instead of saying "Yeah, I have that on CD at home. Wish I had that with me"
