Did anyone else watch this tonight? It was a really well done documentary on a boxing match in 1962 between Emile Griffith and Benny Paret where Griffith put Paret in a coma and he died 10 days later. There's a whole story of Paret taunting Griffith before the fight because he's gay and people wondering if he went into the ring to try and kill Paret. It was really interesting and sad.

Griffith was gay? Christ, I knew the guy when I was a kid.

My uncle owned a bar in Jersey City and he knew a lot of boxers, including Emile Griffith. They were pretty good friends and Griffith would come down the shore from time to time. He even had Thanksgiving dinner with us one year at my parents house.

Never knew the guy was gay though.

Great, great documentary. The footage of Paret getting beat is just brutal.

THAT many? I only counted 22...and everyone else had a different count, too.

Either way, after about a dozen, he was hitting a dead man at that point.

I read in the paper 29 but either way it was too many. Paret never should have been in the ring after the previous fight he had.
