For some reason lately at work when I try to save a Jpg file it keeps trying to save it .jpeg instead of .jpg regardless of the extension in IE. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Dump your cache and restart.

Also try re-loading the picture and saving, or right clicking the thumbnail and save target as.

Reef there is no differnence. The 3 leter version is anold thign from DOS when file extensions were all 3 letters. Like .exe or .vbs.

NOw the newer versions of windows can have longer extension names. There is no difference in size or quality to you as a user. It has to do with the file name on the server you are getting it from

//Edit you can change the extension to jpeg if you want, or if a program like office is looking for the jpeg extension instead of jpg. You will not harm the file

Thanks to Reef for my sig. You rock

Hopefully that works for you Reef.

Not to hijack your thread, would the same trick work if suddenly your computer won't let you save any pictures in any format other than .bmp? A few weeks ago this started & now I can't save anything as a jpeg unless I type it in while naming the file...and .gifs won't save at all.

The problem for me is that when I try to view the jpeg file after I download it, I get error messages. Unfortunately my work pc is so locked down that I cannot go in and change the extension settings or even associate jpeg files with any particular program so I have to go through a bunch of extra steps to try and view files. Or I have to individually change the extension on each file from jpeg to jpg. Otherwise I'll have to call tech support and have a "ticket" opened that will probably take three weeks to fix something that I think I could fix in about 1 minute.

When you're saving, save it as "picturename.jpg" instead of just "picturename"
